does it matter who you know?
by: florI know that a lot of people say that you have to know people to get into a sorority here, is that true? does that mean that you were best friends with those girls, or that you’re just familiar with each other before rush starts?

In a word, yes. UT is unique from a lot of other state schools in the sense that it’s difficult for people below a certain standard to get in. This means that UT is chock full of quality, talented students. When recruitment rolls around, the houses are essentially choosing from a TON of qualified girls. Everyone was a cheer/drill team/sports maniac with high grades and a ton of community service experience to boot. How do you narrow down that group? For the first couple of rounds especially, girls will pick the girls they’re already familiar with. It’s just how things are around here. That’s not to say you can’t get a bid from certain houses, it just may be more difficult when there are girls with connections already vying for those spots.

I didn't know anyone and got a top tier bid. If you're poised and fit in with the girls in general, you'll get the benefit of the doubt.
