top national sororities

by: Interesting

I am not speaking as an expert, real or pretend. Just my observations from friends who attend other universities. We all have a tendancy to consider the "best" national sororities to be the ones that are the best at our school. For the most part, they are strong nationally. But based on my friends attending Alabama, Ole Miss, KU, OU, UNT and others, it seems like our mid tier sororities' nationals are pumping big bucks and time into colonizing and jumpstarting nearly dead chapters. I am talking about AXO, DG, and APhi. My beautiful, classy high school friend just pledged APhi at UNT. I had always heard they were terrible there. Now they are solid midtier and moving up. Everywhere I turn, it seems like these three groups are really working at gaining quality chapters. It is a long and difficult process at some of these schools, but hats off for their efforts.

I would say that is generally true. Chi Omega is usually strong in Texas schools too, although they are at some smaller campuses. DDD and ZTA can be found on smaller campuses too, But KKG, Theta, and PiPhi usually only hit up larger Greek communities. Nothing wrong with that, there just are more chapters of XO,ZTA, and DDD in Texas, I think.

"Southern" sororities are sororities that were founded in the South:
ADPi, XO, DDD, DG, KD, PM, ZTA

Southern powerhouse has more to do with Southern prominence. Most of the ones founded in the South are strong in the South. Wouldn't quite call DG a Southern powerhouse, they're a little spotty, but are very strong throughout Mississippi and here and there elsewhere in the South, like UT for instance. On the other hand (and I'm very sure I'll get accused of being a Kappa by that girl who hates Kappa for saying this), KKG wasn't founded in the South, but are pretty prominent in the region, and are generally considered among the Southern powerhouses along with DDD, XO, ZTA, KD, Phi Mu and ADPi.

Also, I want to add that DG is very strong nationally. Their area of prominence just isn't specifically the South, much like Pi Phi, Theta, AXO, Alpha Phi, and Gamma Phi are very strong national sororities that just don't have as strong a Southern emphasis.
