top national sororities

by: Interesting

I am not speaking as an expert, real or pretend. Just my observations from friends who attend other universities. We all have a tendancy to consider the "best" national sororities to be the ones that are the best at our school. For the most part, they are strong nationally. But based on my friends attending Alabama, Ole Miss, KU, OU, UNT and others, it seems like our mid tier sororities' nationals are pumping big bucks and time into colonizing and jumpstarting nearly dead chapters. I am talking about AXO, DG, and APhi. My beautiful, classy high school friend just pledged APhi at UNT. I had always heard they were terrible there. Now they are solid midtier and moving up. Everywhere I turn, it seems like these three groups are really working at gaining quality chapters. It is a long and difficult process at some of these schools, but hats off for their efforts.

Oh, and I am in none of these groups. Just friends with a lot of girls who are. I am not PKT, but am in "Top Six". This thread is in no way negative to other chapters here, love them all! Would like to hear more success stories from others as well. In my opinion, my sorority is fabulous with rituals and traditions, but we are big because we place at a lot of smaller schools...usually have good chapters, but at a lot of schools PKT doesn't go. Just being honest. And I think the three I mentioned above are fairly selective as well.

I'd say that's a fair observation and you're obviously a XO :) If you see the big picture, PKT seem to be on a decline (but still strong) and AXO, DG, ADPi, APhi, and GPhi (who have always been strong) are getting stronger. These things are cyclical though and all the groups have their ups and downs. All of these groups along with DDD, ZTA and XO have always been and will probably always be the top 11.

True that ADpi and GPhi are included in this group of strong nationals putting big money in their colonies, restructuring, and recolonizing efforts. It is great to see nationals so focused on improving their organizations. And yes, I agree the top 11 are pretty set.

KD and Phi Mu are so strong in the south...I would love to see both have really strong chapters in Texas.

Phi Mu has never been successful in Texas so far. KD hasn't been as great as in the rest of the South but they've done decently.

Phi Mu's oldest chapters (Phi) was at UT from 1913 to 1965. Would be cool if they could recolonize.

Phi Mu is definitely a Southern powerhouse along with KD, DDD, ADPi, ZTA, KKG and XO. Seems strange for them to not be in Texas.

I would love to see Phi Mu recolonize at UT, APhi at A&M and TCU, and KD at TCU. I am sure there are others. As hateful as this site is, it does open your eyes to the idea that the worst sorority on your campus might be stronger or as strong as yours nationally.

KKg put themselves in the Southern powerhouse sororities. Not true. KKG is the worst, or bottom tier sorority at FSU, Florida, North Carolina, Clemson, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and other Southern colleges. With kappa being 'Bottom Tier' at so many colleges in the South, it is pathetic that they try to insert themselves with Chi Omega, KD, Tri Delt, Phi Mu, Zeta, and ADPi. These sororities are strong in the South but not necessarily nationally.

The truly "Southern" sororities are KD, ADPi, XO, PhiMu and ZTA. XO, ADPi and ZTA also have a strong National presence but KD and PhiMu are mainly just in the South. DDD and KKG have a strong presence in the South but KKG is very hit or miss as far as being "top tier"

AOPi seems to be growing nationally too.

What are you basing your facts on? It's all subjective. No one agrees on any ranking at any school. And what's the definition of "truly Southern"? Sounds like you're just trying to justify being in a less than stellar house at UT.

Please! This seems to be a positive thread. Kappa is a great sorority with a strong presence in Texas and in other southern schools. No need to be unkind. ADPi is NOT strong in Texas but strong throughout the rest of the south, though we have a good chapter here and I hope that will spread. There is room for every sorority to be strong and there are only a few that seem to have a weak presence at most school. Tri Sig and others are seldom top tier. This is just about how the strong nationals are devoting time, energy, and money into their chapters and I think that is exciting for all groups.

Our DG chapter is excellent here and I'd like to see us get strong at other Texas schools too.

DG does have a strong chapter here! They are strong at U of H too although that school is just now building its Greek presence. They are strong in many of the same areas as APhi and Alpha Chi, I believe. I don't see any reason why they can't grow stronger in the south!

Id say the strong sororities in Texas are kkg and ddd. The rest are hit and miss tier-wise so I'd like to see everyone else improve.

DDD now probably has more top tier chapters in Texas at big Greek schools than just about anyone, and XO and Zeta seem to be on the rise along with some other more traditionally middle tier (in Texas) houses. Hate to say it, but all of PKT has declined some in recent years. Kappa seems to have been least effected overall of the three, but are still losing ground to the "new money" groups. Pi Phi is still certainly top 3, and have several extremely wealthy and prominent chapters in the state, but have had several decline to middle tier status. Theta overall seems to have been hit the hardest, but still have some incredibly stong chapters like the one here.
