You can't get a bid without one. Why not get them just in case? Girls do get bids to big six without knowing anyone in all chapters but especially Tri Delta, Chi O, and Zeta

I think getting into PKT without knowing anyone is very, very difficult but girls definitely get into all of the rest without knowing people. Knowing people helps but isn't absolutely necessary.

Of course, GET RECS FOR EVERY HOUSE! You have no idea what will happen once recruitment rolls around. You may click with a sorority you never thought you had a chance with. Once you’ve fallen in love with those sisters, you’ll be kicking yourself for not taking that extra step and getting that rec.

Yes, Recs matter.

1. Several chapters on campus have a national policy that you must have a rec on file to get a bid. And the chapters that I know of with this policy are across all tiers, i.e.- it's not a PKT thing.

2. Texas rush is competitive. You know this. The chapters have to cut tons of girls through the week. Almost everyone rushing has great grades so the only other "automatic" thing to cut for is not having a rec. You will have brutal cuts for round 2 if you don't have them. And honestly, there's so little about rush that's in the control of a pnm. Recs are about it. So get them!! It might get you the invitation to the round where you meet your Big Sis or become someone's rush crush.
