difference between top and mid
by: Questions
What would you say is the defining line between the "top tier" and "mid tier?"
Is it simply wealth, house, and quality of girls, because I think we all can agree some mid tier fraternites have quality guys that any of the top would take
#2by: Honestly
This is the biggest difference. Same with girls. The big 4 fraternities and "pkt". Grew up in greek Texas families. They wore sports coats to their private high schools in downtown Houston and Dallas (small town Texas exceptions). The middle tier guys and girls wore american eagle to their suburb high schools in which comparably to their peers thought they were "wealthy" and decided to rush when they got to Texas (not knowing much about the tradition involved). They now think they are "frat" and try really hard to mimic those individuals listed above.
#5by: What??
I know plenty of private school kids in middle tier fraternities, and tons of Big 4 guys went to public schools like Memorial and Highland Park. Never seen a more ridiculously generalized statement about the differences between the top and middle tier. All the middle tier weren't suburban geeds and all the top tier weren't "frat stars" before coming to UT.

It's all about connections and who you know in the houses before you rush. Camp girls (Longhorn, Waldemar, Mystic) all know lots of girls, especially in the Big 6 so these girls will pull for them during rush. Also girls from the certain high schools- Memorial, Highland Park, Midland, Westlake, Stratford- all pull for their friends from their same schools. It's not what you know, it's who you know.

#8by: Although
this is generalized and obviously not bullet proof, I would say that for the most part it is accurate. A lot of the middle tier guys love and respect their fraternities much more than the upper tier guys which might make them come off as "try hards". It's just another entitlement for the upper tier guys

Don't feel bad. I'm from the first category and I can assure you that plenty of my friends' families have lots of old tradition and no money left in the family. They spent it all for appearances and their credit cards have maxed out. Some of you "suburban" folks have loads of money in the bank and your parents can sleep at night knowing they are not in debt. Geograpy isn' everything. Don't let anyone intimidate you. Some of these kids have a lot to hide.
