sig ep

by: yuh

I’m an incoming freshman, I met some guys in Sig Ep, ZBT and Sigma Chi through mutual friends and am going to be rushing them all. I’ve heard Sig Ep is the way to go out of these 3 and it’s probably the one I’ll want to join most but I’ve also heard that they’re going dry or whatever. There seems to be conflicting info on here about it. Anyone have concrete info?

Lots of the questions about how SigEp's leadership in adopting requirements for substance free chapter housing will impact the chapter experience. The honest answer is that it shouldn’t change much. The purpose of a SigEp chapter is to find men who share our Fraternity’s principles and to develop them into a Balanced Man® who will be the next generation of values-based leaders. Drinking in the chapter facility really plays no role in that mission, and frankly, data from higher education researchers (GreekLifeEdu and AlcoholEdu for College® to name a few) shows that it actively works against a chapter’s ability to do so. Many SigEp chapters have already implemented substance-free facility policies and are thriving on campuses across the country.

I wonder if taking alcohol out of the Sig Ep house will work like prohibition and push members and guests to riskier behaviors in other locations?

Lol no. UT sigep is one of the top chapters in the nation, so they won't be going dry anytime soon.

In all honesty, if an alcohol ban was the sole reason a potential new member didn't want to join SigEp they likely wouldn't be a good fit for SigEp.

Proud of our SigEp TX Alpha chapter at the University of Texas for leading the way and adopting SigEp's substance-free policy. Thank you, brothers, for exemplifying what it means to be part of the #NewNormal.
