PKT is Pi Beta Phi, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Kappa Alpha Theta. The PKT origin is that Nationally and locally, these three sororities can be put together almost all the time. Nationally they are the strongest with the most elite status and reputation. I have talked with a lot of sorority women from different parts of the country and they say the same thing. Certain PNMs will only go PKT, or drop out of recruitment, and PKT wants a certain type of girl that will 'fit' into PKT's standing. These 3 sororities are just a notch above the other sororities. This is m observation and opinion. Every campus is different, but I'm stating for the most part, PKT is the ranking and group stereotype.

Not even close nationally or even inside of Texas. Only true at UT and the term is only used for UT. Might try actually getting out in the world before you assume you know everything.

Clearly, to this "PKT" poster above, "the world" is UT. Because it's seriously laughable if anyone thinks that PKT is some kind of national standard for anything! Even in the last sentence she says "every campus is different" but it doesn't look like she really knows that. Better stay within a 10 mile radius of the 40 acres, sweetie...or that Pi Phi arrow might start to miss the mark!

the article is so silly. A little embarrassing to be associating with an article that was written in a time when women had no position to act or speak out of turn. It pokes fun of our Greek system. But what ever floats your boat.

Harvard has Kappa, Theta, DG, and Aphi. So what does that mean? MIT has Theta, PiPhi, Sigma Kappa, APhi, and AXO. Dartmouth...APhi, KD, AZD, DDD, and Kappa. The list goes on. So, who cares? No one even talks about PKT except at UT. They are not the top three at Tech or TAMU, even though they try to siphon off the PKT/Texas thing. All three are great sororities and are awesome here. But they are hardly the top three national powerhouses. Top 10 , I would think. But they don't exist as an "entity" outside Austin. Sorry.

are kind of unique in being present and strong at almost every Ivy and top 60 University. They're probably the closest thing you could find to a national top 3, but they are absolutely not strong everywhere or dominantly ahead of quite a few of the other Panhellenic sororities. They're probably top 3 nationally, but not in a way that deserves a special name to differentiate themselves.

The top three sororities at the best schools in the south ie UVA, Vandy, SMU, Texas

By: Generally
by: What

about Duke, UNC, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Tulane, and William & Mary? Every one of those Southern universities with a Greek system is ranked in the top 60 by US News (SMU and Georgia are both tied for 60 the rest are higher). You cherry picked four schools that agreed with your point as the "best schools in the South". Duke is the best school in the South and you forgot them. UNC is the second best public university in the South after UVA and followed by Georgia Tech. This is also excluding schools in questionable places South of the Mason-Dixon like DC and Maryland. Theta isn't very strong in the South outside a few schools, and are nearly dead last at several SEC schools like Alabama and LSU. Kappa is pretty strong in the SEC and South in general, but are still bottom at places like South Carolina and Auburn. Pi Phi is fairly middle tier in the South outside of those schools you mentioned and a few others. I would probably agree that they're the closest thing to a national top 3, only maybe Kappa qualifies as a big Southern sorority and still not quite at the same level as KD, Phi Mu, DDD, or XO.

PKT are awesome groups, but not top 3 nationally. That is UT delusional thinking. Actually go anywhere else in the country except Texas and SEC and you will find Alpha Phi and DG are huge...and they are both growing. They both are growing in the SEC particularly and are doing quite well. They are fairly picky about schools as well. I would also say that AOPi and Gamma Phi are growing quickly, but aren't as selective about schools. Alpha Chi and KD are very respected nationally as well. I typically think of Tri Delt, ChiO, and ZTA as the BIG 3, to be honest. They aren't as selective about campuses, but they have huge alumni support and tons of money. It is all about perspective.

Kappa is without a doubt top 3 nationally, they're basically strong in every region of the US. Zeta is good, but if you actually look at their chapters around the country they aren't top 6. DG is probably top 6 nationally, but they and Alpha Phi aren't big Southern houses at all. They might be expanding on a lot of SEC campuses, but they are still pretty solidly behind KD, Phi Mu, DDD, XO, Kappa, ADPi and Zeta in the SEC. They might be pretty close to Pi Phi based on the strength of Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Florida in the SEC.

OKAY if you look at any school in the SEC you will realize that UT's Greek system is not nearly the same. The SEC prides itself with the best Greek systems (ex: Ole Miss, Bama, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, etc, etc.) With that being said you can't say that your "PKT" is the strongest nationally especially when those sororities are not STRONG AT ALL in the South where the Greek Systems are the STRONGEST in the country. Theta is horrible at just about every school except for Georgia. They are for sure dead last at Ole Miss, Auburn, and LSU. Pi Phi is bottom tier at LSU, Ole Miss, and Georgia and only 'okay' at Bama and Auburn. Kappa is the only sorority that even competes in the SEC out of those 3 but even that's a stretch. They're only top tier at Bama. Lower Middle tier at Ole Miss and LSU. And bottom of the barrel at Auburn. I know I didn't touch on all SEC schools but these are the schools with the best Greek Life (The Florida schools have good greek life too I just don't know enough about them) KD, Chi O, and Tri Delt are top top top at Ole Miss, Bama, and LSU. and KD and Chi O are top at Auburn and Georgia with Tri Delt falling a little behind them. Phi Mu and DG also come close to having great chapters across the SEC. All I'm saying is that they're is a little more than the corner of this universe you call "PKT"

a lot of those tiers are dead wrong with you bumping chapters down further than they actually are. DG's only good SEC chapters as far as I know are the Mississippi schools and Florida. Phi Mu is top or middle at most SEC schools. Pi Phi, Kappa and XO are top at Arkansas. Kappa, DDD and Theta top at Vanderbilt. Closest thing I can get to a consensus for Georgia is AOPi, KD, Theta, ADPi and Zeta with Kappa and Pi Phi being considered upper middle there. Kappa is middle at Ole Miss, Pi Phi is lower middle. Pi Phi is in the grey area between top and upper mid at Auburn. Now on the flip side Kappa is lower mid at South Carolina and Florida and bottom at Auburn. Pi Phi is dead last at Tennessee. Theta is dead last at Tennessee and Auburn and bottom at Bama. I'm not going to include A&M and Mizzou because they are Big 12 for all intents and purposes, but both would improve these sorority's SEC standings more. I'm not in any of these, but they aren't as bad as you made them out to be, particularly Kappa. DDD, KD, XO and Phi Mu are the best SEC sororities, I'd say Kappa is with or ahead of ADPi and Zeta because they all have a mix of really strong, average and pretty weak chapters. After that it'd probably be Pi Phi and DG and AOPi who have 2 or 3 great chapters and then a lot of average ones.

want to add UT has a Greek system on par with the mid-level sec schools like Tennessee, Arkansas and Florida, and was probably more comparable to LSU, South Carolina, and Auburn before the administration sent it tail spinning for a while in the 80s and 90s. Also AXO has some surprisingly solid chapters in the SEC, I'd throw them in the third set.

Nothing against the others... However, PKT are traditionally the top 3 at many places. It definitely has to do with old money and tradition. Yes, they may not be exactly the top at various schools but rarely are they the bottom.

completely sucks everywhere in the south, where sororities really matter. Pi Phi is at best middle tier at most southern schools and Kappa is pretty middle to bad at most southern schools too. So you are obviously wrong.

Kappa is strong in all regions of the US, top chapters in all regions, and chapters at the best public and private schools, the more selective the school the better the chapter

Pi Phi is strong in all regions too, with top chapters in all regions (except deep south), chapters at most of the best public and private

Theta is strong everywhere but south, strong chapters at Ivy, west coast, midwest, chapters at best public and private schools

Tri Delt and Chi O are not strong West Coast, West. Chi O will put a chapter anywhere and don't have same standards as Tri Delt, DG, KKG, KAT, PiPh.

what you are failing to see "truth" is that their really are a lot of wonderful strong sororities in each region of our country with their own history and alum support. I am so glad you are so proud of the PKT thing in Texas but what is disturbing is how rude and condensing you are about other sororities and what they have done to promote friendship, community, and scholarship for women everywhere. And isn't that what really matters? Aren't we all trying to improve women's lives by making it more enriching and meaningful? Greek life is about prompting women not tearing over sororities down. We will not make it as a system if we do not change our attitudes and behaviors to reflex a more refined life. A life that lives and thinks on a higher live. The universities will have no need for us. Please remember that when you put others down. Be kind. Be honest. and Be a better person. These are things you wont regret doing.
