how to go about making connections for rush next year

I'm a freshman who didn't rush this year because I wanted to make friends outside of Greek life the first semester. I want to pledge somewhere either in spring or sophomore fall, but I don't really know many people in frats.

Any tips on how to meet people to help out with rush next year?

Most guys in frats are in the business or the communication school. There are some guys in frats that live on campus so getting to know people in your dorm or in your major is the best possible way. If you really don't know anyone, possibly working at a summer camp this summer like Camp Longhorn or the other large camps with major greek life in Texas will help you meet other guys in greek life.
