black and rushing
by: PNMIs it hard to rush a sorority and be black? I have a good GPA and I'll have all my recs and I am OOS

This is the 21st century and (most) people here live in it, thankfully. Recs ahead is good. Make sure that some of your "recs" are letters of support, too, not just forms people fill out. Get an early start and you should be good and this advice goes for anyone.

It's not too difficult! From what the girls I've noticed around campus, the chapters with the most diversity are Zeta, AXO, and KD! Keep in mind rush is predominantly white, but I don't think it's because they don't want diverse girls to rush, they just don't come through the process like the throngs of white girls do. As long as your GPA is decent, you're nice, and present yourself well, you'll be fine!

What chapters are predominately white but as the other poster said, is ZTA, AXO and KD have lots of diversity. You have to be comfortable in a predominately white culture because that's what it's going to be. You're absolutely welcome... just put your best foot forward and you will certainly get a bid.

Literally the only reason there aren't more black students in greek life here is because not as many that come to UT choose to rush. From my observation, a lot of black students from the major feeder schools also end up going out of state. It's all about knowing people. If more stayed in state, they'd be getting the bids. Personally, I think being from out of state is helpful to anyone going through rush. People find it refreshing not talking to the 700th girl from Plano.
