I always though of Tejas as a local fraternity for all the strait arrow types that din't want to be in a fraternity. Have a nice house.

Still never heard anyone refer to Tejas as a fraternity. I mean they may be more like a fraternity than the other spirit groups but I don't think the Greeks consider them "on of us" and I kind of doubt they'd refer to themselves as a fraternity.

the same lines as Omicron, but have a smaller house and a lot less members

say they're really like Omicron, cause Omicron was until recently KA, still technically use a Greek letter, and are considered by themselves and others to be part of the Greek community. Tejas was never a Greek fraternity and the only real connection to Greek life they have is that they sometimes mix with sororities maybe (which sports teams and spirit groups do too). They're more like a fraternity than other spirit groups, but no one joins with the intention of "going Greek."

Actually I take it back, I guess I'd consider them a local fraternity, but they're pretty different from all the others.

Was KA in the 60s and he was also a member of tejas as well as tx cowboys. I think they are more of a literary social club. Back in his days there were a lot of fraternity guys in tejas in addition to independents and students involved in other organizations.

You are the one who is not aware of history. Case in point: Mr. Jack Bain class of 1928 was one of the earliest member of Tejas Club and a Phi Delta Theta.

There are many others from the other Greek chapters throughout the Tejas Club's history.

They are pretty fratty, as in they occasionally throw big parties at their house and always buy lots of sorority stuff during Round Up, but they are technically a spirit group. I really like those guys.

Tejas was founded by a group of Greek and Non-Greek campus leaders in 1925. Its model is neither Greek nor spirit organization, but is based on the clubs at Princeton and other Ivy League schools that elect their members later in their college careers based on their demonstrated leadership and academic accomplishments and shared values.

See also Dartmouth's local called Tri-kaps (kappa kappa kappa) for a similar fraternal organization.
