prestige vs substance?

I was wondering which sororities base the majority of their invite choices off of things like resume, rec letters, GPA and personality as opposed to personal connections or attending the right high school/camp. I've been told that all of the big 6 sororities seem to already know who is going to be worth their time before recruitment even starts. Also, what GPAs tend to be cut after the first round from sororities who think it's important? :)

Actually, most Texas chapters pre rush the pnms. Targeting is just how it's done down here. Without much time to evaluate a girl during recruitment, the chapters pre select for their A, B and C lists. Some shuffling goes on after rush starts, of course, but recruitment really is starting around May with actives targeting certain girls.

The lower mid tiers to bottom tiers take the ones who slipped through the cracks of the top 8 as well as the less connected/cool girls.

Don't people think this is a seriously screwed up way of doing things?? Or does this way of doing things feel into their feelings of superiority or insecurity (not sure which!)? I realize that it all is what it is but we effectively have a closed system here.
