by: RusheeI am definitely planning on rushing both next year, but I am curious as to what are y'alls opinions on both of these chapters.

The history and tradition of the Fijis. Have a nice historic mansion and they're currently building a multimillion $ addition in the back. They'll be keeping their #1 position for the foreseeable future. SAE is a close #2. Sig ep is a newcomer,or "new row" as some sec schools call it. They achieved status only within the past decade or so, and priearly benefited from the misfortunes of older top tier chapters who got kicked off campus and never fully recovered (aka phi delt, kappa sig, ato).

I'm Greek at UT but not in anything mentioned in this thread. SAE and sigep both rushed me and they were both enjoyable. SAE is very big on connections, it's tough to come into SAE without knowing anyone unless you can be in Austin a lot during the summer. Although this makes them seem exclusive, they were very respectable Guys and a couple of them still did a little keeping up with my even though I didn't go SAE.
Sig ep is not as exclusive as SAE but they all enjoy a party. They're definitely fun to rush with. A lot of my friends went sig ep and they are all some guys that i enjoy being around. Both have very nice houses. Be yourself, and enjoy your time. Even if you don't like the fraternity and decide to do another, it's the last time you'll ever have free partying at UT. Be gracious, but don't kiss ass

If the Big Three were movies...
Fiji: Animal House (Movie not stereotype): Good clean fun. Slightly dated, but with a classic feel that appeals to everyone.
SAE: Rushmore: Highbrow and not that fun at first sight, but a with a very dedicated cult following amongst the upper middle class.
Sig Ep: Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: Almost unbearably crazy the first time, but on the second time around, its apparent that there's a deep intelligence in the madness.

Kappa Sig is hardly "old money," or pledges anyone that got bids to the big three. I think that all of you are forgetting that they only became relevant a year ago when KA (now Omicron) collapsed. According to their website, in 2009, the Squids had less than one hundred people in it. Also, I don't know of a single Kappa Sig that went to old line schools in state (HP, St. Marks, Dallas Jesuit, ESD, Kinkaid, Alamo Heights, St. Johns, St. Mary's Hall, EHS, Lamar) or out of state. Those are the places where the vast majority of Fiji, Sig Ep, and SAE chapter's are from.
Kappa Sig has kids from Plano for God's sake.

Fiji wasn't that good either. My dad (Kinkaid '81) (Phi Delt '85) said they used to be almost all from small town east Texas. Sig Ep and Fiji were about were Pike is today, respectable, but by no means top tier, and Kappa Sig, who'd been kicked off in the early 70's was struggling. Sigma Nu got their house, and the Kappa Sigs didn't get it back until Sigma Nu got kicked off in the fall of '91. (Its taken them thirtyish years to recover.) Apparently in the 80's it was pure ATO (West Texas Oil), Phi Delt (Houston Schools) and Beta (Hill Country Ranchers). SAE was "technically" one of the best also, but nobody liked them but the Pi Phis because they were entirely HP/Jesuit/St. Marks kids and total snobs that looked down on everybody else.

ATO and Phi Delt haven't fully come back, but Kappa Sig is unarguably top tier and pretty close to Sig Ep these days.
