@texas omicron

It is now an independent fraternity going forward. It is a fact that they will not be returning to the Order's fold. Negotiations to make up with their national failed over the spring and summer. They were close to striking a deal, but KAO nationals did a little bait and switch last minute and still wanted to punish them. I wish them the best of luck.

"Kappa Alpha" is a Greek motto for "excellence/perfection" that's why you see "excelsior" used and also the catchphrase "Excellence is our aim."

Best of luck to y'all as an independent fraternity, I'm sure it'll be more difficult but you defeated a frankly kind of corrupt and bloated national office, and are still doing alright. Losing the title KA will suck cause it definitely carries weight, but as far as I can tell you were left little choice in the matter.

The KA situation sounds like what happened to the top tiered Sigma Nu chapter in the 90s. They got caught hazing and their overreactive hq decided to make an example of them and gave the chapter a 7 year death sentence. Only difference is Tx Omicron had the good sense to drop their national affiliation. Too bad Sigma Nu's alumni and chapter didn't just go local. Today all that physically remains of Sigma Nu is the house and property that Kappa Sigma bought from them. UT Greek system is on a slow decline.

Goin local is only a stop-gap measure. It ain't sustainable in the longrun. Omicron either goes back to nationals or find another frat to affiliate like what happened at duke with SAE (affiliated with ADphi), vanderbilt sigma nu (affiliated with Kappa sig),
Vanerbilt Pike (merged with DKE). "Locals" like UVA Phi Society (formerly Phi delt) and Phi Society (sewanee) just gradually suck harder as time passes cuz no one gives a fig about a local. The letters can change but the brotherhood remains and that's all that matters.

The only place where locals are viable is Dartmouth, cause almost every fraternity there disaffiliated, but most have prominent alumni. I don't think UT's Greek system is really declining, it's just natural rearranging. There's been a downcycle, but it's probably going to turn up soon.

Why doesn't Omicron just affiliate with a new national office? Seen it happen at other schools before.

they have to wait 5 years or something, plus the alumni funding it might not like that. Probably the best option though, they could affiliate with DKE, Sigma Nu, or Beta, but I doubt they will.

The KA Chapter closing at UT was for a 12-24 month period at the most. It was just enough time to get the older problems out of the chapter and in no way would have closed them down permanently. The problems were rampant and issues happened on a near weekly basis at omicron chapter.

Instead of taking the punishment as adults they thru a little hissy fit, took someone else's ball & went home. The house is not property of a little club and 138 years of dues were to KA not omicron club.

The Omicron Chapter of KA has been a train wreck for over a decade. From hazing and injuries to pledges to shooting a shotgun at firemen during a call they have acted like the immature punks they are. The list of their infractions & incidents go for pages and pages. UT kicked them off campus several times too. And no I am not from he KA National office just a disgusted Brother.

It is sad to see the UT KA Chapter leave but it will be back some day that is certain . The omicron club and its members are now someone else's problem.

Take your national's ball. The house belonged to the alumni association and wasn't funded by the national organization which is why they were allowed to keep it, and the courts agreed. As for their misconduct, that's probably a legit complaint.

I have no idea why any prospective members would want to join Omicron. They have no chance of reconciliation with nationals any longer, and still have a pending lawsuit ahead of them. They are heading nowhere but straight into the ground. If you are even considering joining this chapter, you must have some serious mental issues. There is no way that they will survive at the rate they are going, especially being an independent chapter from now on.

Very good question. They have a nice house and a tenuous connection to KA, but they're in possibly the worst position of any fraternity on campus.
