us rushing hard as a transfer?
by: Transfer
Hi! Ok so I am hoping to transfer to UT and I was hoping to go through rush so I can meet people and get adjusted to the school! I don't know too many people at UT other than those I met at camp longhorn while growing up because I am out of state, so I'm a bit concerned socially.
I was wondering if you think it's worth it to rush - I only ask because it's a pretty grueling process and I'm not sure I would want to do it if houses don't really take sophomores?

I would have to disagree with the above poster. Rushing at UT actually is very competitive! I think it's because ALL the girls at UT are smart and accomplished to begin with. I have seen pretty blonde homecoming queens get cut by all/most of the Big 6. I have seen beautiful out-of-state girls from wealthy families dropped by all Big 6, probably due to lack of connections. I'm not saying don't give it a try. I'm just saying you have to keep an open mind. I know girls in all the sororities, both Big 6 and non Big 6. All are going to mixers and formals, proudly wearing their letters and having fun. The hell of Rush is usually all worth it at the end. Good luck!

I rushed as a transfer and I totally recommend it!! Just be yourself and go with the flow. Most of the time the competiveness of UT rush is because pnms decide that there are only a few sororities for them and when they get cut by them they're crushed. Keep an open mind! Being a transfer is scary and I promise that accepting a bid from any sorority will help you met people on campus!
