competitive?
by: PNMI am a senior in high school and have narrowed down my future schools to Texas, SMU and Baylor. All of these schools obviously have very competitive recruitments, but I am curious if rush here is truly as competitive as it as made out to be on this website. I am a legacy to two of your "Big 6" sororities and other factors like GPA and connections are in my favor. I'm leaning towards Texas, but am worried that despite these advantages I may still have a bad rush because it is described on this website to be incredibly ruthless. Is it truly as competitive as it is made out to be? Do the houses here (particularly PKT) tend to take legacies assuming all other factors line up?

Baylor Greek life is a literal joke. They don't even have physical houses but still act like sorority stars. But hey go there if you want to live in the middle of nowhere, pay 30k more than UT to go to a worse school. Also have fun with the required weekly chapel I hope ur religious.

As someone who went through UT rush last year with three legacies in the big 6 (and two of the three UT legacies), I ended up getting a bid from one of my legacies. It is by no means a guarantee - I actually got cut from one of mine relatively early but I wouldn't have fit in there either.
However, be prepared to get cut from houses based on your legacy alone and most of what was important is who you know inside the house as they will be the ones pulling for you (and talking to other girls in other chapters saying they want you). Rush will be challenging as most girls who aren't from certain neighborhoods, who don't know a lot of girls in houses and who aren't on Pom and cheer probably won't have their top choices all back. It is a very competitive rush but incredibly rewarding making friends and meeting great people in Greek life here!

If your top goal is to share sorority membership with either legacy group, your best bet might be to enroll in a college that has the two groups, but where neither Chapter is top tier. For instance, you could go to LSU , Ole Miss, or Bama if one of your legacies is Theta. You could go to OK State or Ole Miss if you want to target Kappa. However, doing that doesn't guarantee you a bid to the legacy houses or a bid anywhere. To be honest, I think you are setting yourself up for undue pressure during rush. Rush is as nerve racking as it is exciting, without the added pressure to focus on only 2 chapters.

I agree with you, but I think you missed my point. I said if her TOP GOAL is to join one of her legacy houses then she should consider attending a different school where the chance for achieving that goal might be higher. If her top goal is to attend UT, then , if she wants to join a sorority, she'd better be willing to accept a bid other than from PKT.

Even pkt have way more legacies going thru recruitment than they will be allowed to bid. For example, one hundred legacies for 70 available bid spots means you or someone like you will be dropped from their list. So do not assume you will be bid to one of your family's legacy homes.
