chances of a sophomore rushing next year

by:

Hello, I'm a freshman who wanted to rush but ended up backing out in the middle of the summer, as I didn't really have the money for a sorority and wanted to keep my grades up my 1st year. Now that I'm actually here, I really regret that decision and want to try and rush next fall. I know this is really early, but is there any hope for a sophomore rushing at UT as a sophomore? I don't want to hang on to the idea of something that won't be possible.

Yeah, plenty of slam pieces still get a chance for me to make them wet sophomore year.

It's harder as a sophomore but far from impossible, I know a lot of girls who joined sororities as a sophomore, just keep an openned mind because it'll be harder to get into "top" houses.

Sororities are required to take a certain number of sophomores each year. Some say it is harder, some say it is easier. All of the sororities here are very good: all of them have pretty, sweet girls because the competition to even get into a sorority at UT is so much greater than at other schools. I would say that the sorority system here is really evolving with the amounts of women trying to get in, and many of the traditional "top" sororities have dropped in placing, and others are rising. With that said, keep an open mind--a sorority is what you make it! 1 out of 3 of the sophomores that were in my rush group made it through. I don't know the exact statistics over-all but hopefully this helps! Some of my friends did not get in to the sorority that they wanted their freshman year and re-rushed sophomore year and got into the sorority that they wanted. Rush sucks here but, don't take anything too personal. There is no way these girls can get to know you in that short of a time span. Go into it with an open mind, God will put you where you need to be!

No one is required to take the sophomore quota. Many of the best houses don't utilize it.

And the only people who keep saying that sorority ranks are changing are those desperate unhappy lower ranked sorority members.

the sororities don't have to take the soph quota so cool above is misinformed. it's just suggested. you need to keep a very open mind, have lots of involvement, make lots of friends in sororities, don't get known for things like being a drunken ho or boyfriend stealer and have a 3.4 or better to really have a chance.

Pretty sure there is a sophomore quota.

No one is required to take sophomores. They can use the quota if they want but no one has to and some houses don't.

Yeah there is a sophomore quota but you don't have to use it if you don't want to. You can take up to that number of sophomores or none. Just depends on the house. The upper tier houses don't use it the way the others do.

Some good advice - meet as many girls in the sororities now as you can! You're lucky because you can meet a bunch of girls and feel out the sororities to see which ones you might want to fit in with. If you express interest in rushing, most of the girls will be more than welcome to tell you about it and keep you in mind. It's always helpful to have girls pulling for you during rush!

It's hard but not impossible. Probably 75% negative and 25% positive, depending who you "know" and who can pull for you.

I had 3 houses on Pref night and I got the one that I'd wanted since open house. I actually had no friends in greek life pre-rush and I just was involved on campus and had average grades my freshman year. As long as you are really outgoing and are pretty (it's rush you have to know it's a little vain) you'll be alright. During the summer try and workout and make money if you're worried about the costs of greek life because it's not just the house, it's the t-shirts, the dresses for formal, etc. It's been an amazing experience for me and I'm so glad I joined so don't put yourself in a bad mindset for it.
