rush

by: Concerned

I will be rushing in the fall and, just like everyone else, UT. rush sounds pretty scary. This is probably silly to be asking but I just want to be prepared. Here is some background info so hopefully I will get an answer..... I went to a small private school, one of the three big camps and was liked there (officer, awards etc) and plan to live in Hardin. I know a decent number of girls from camp and I think they like me, but none of the girls know me really, really well. Just like everyone who rushes at UT I have a good resume, grades, people seem to think I am attractive, etc. My two biggest concerns are that I don't think I will have anyone pulling really hard for me (unless camp girls pull for me even though they don't know me really well....does that happen?) and I am sort of quiet. I don't think I am awkward or anything and I can hold a conversation, but I am not a bubbly, cheerleader type. Is Rush going to be awful or do more serious girls do ok? Any suggestions for things to do to help? I was considering messaging one of my camp friends and staying with them in the spring but I am afraid that is weird? Thanks for any advice!

To be honest, stay away from Greek rank during and before recruitment. This place is toxic. This may sound cliche but every sorority here is great in their own ways. I would say people would be lucky to be part of a sorority in this campus to begin with.

The advice I can give you is to Keep an open mind and just try to go with the flow as much as you can. It's a long process that takes a lot of commitment, and I'm not just talking about Rush.
If you're striving to be in a top house, get a lot of recommendations, and try to network with people who you might know. Even so, this doesn't guarantee anything. UT rush is very competitive, and not many girls get what they want (which is why you need to keep an open mind). Just make sure to keep your social media classy, keep your grades on track, reach out to the girls you know, and try to open yourself.
