Let me set the record strait DU was alright at Texas from the late 1950s to the middle 1980s.They averaged anywhere from 80-110 members and had a decent social calendar. Were they as good as KA ATO etc , of course not, but they weren't the worst. They got worse in the mid to late 80s and never recovered.
They own a house worth 700,000 outright and have some alumni support. Could they get to Pi Kap level in 3-4 years, possibly. Can they get to mid tier(ATO/ Pike) . I don't see it.

Looks like they are growing. Around 70 members or so. Some alumni activity as well.

Do you all think I'd be better off joining them or Beta?

Both fraternities are similar. Beta has a longer history at UT and is modestly stronger nationally. The differences aren't that great , slight edge to Beta.

Beta seems to have a really good brotherhood (from what I can tell) and it seems like there guys generally like one another, also, they are getting big money for a new house. DU doesn't have much going for them and I've heard from one of their members that there isnt really a since of brotherhood in DU.

DU was pretty good in the past, and now they are restarting so I don't know. It all depends on whether the people in there are chill. They do have a lot of support from the DU headquarters from what I have heard. I think the best way to find out is to check them out.

I am a UT and DU alumnus, 1964 to Jan. 1970. I pledged in the fall of 1965 and became active that next spring. DU was a great house. It led in academics from the early sixties and beginning in the class before mine, it led in athletics in many areas so don't talk to me about the DKE's, the Beta's, the Phi Psi's, and the Sigma Nu's; all good fraternities BUT spare me this crap about the KA's who we beat in football every year I was there and on Leon Street between our two houses when they shot beer cans out of their cannon at us. Big mistake. If you want to know about DU at Texas back in the day, get my book, "The Justin Gates Chronicles - Texas Daydream". It is on Amazon.com in both paperback and digital formats and has many stories about our fraternity, our history and the men who dated some of the best looking women on campus, sorority and non-Greek. I applaud these young men who are working hard to bring DU back to Texas and I think they will make it back strong. I hope the history and heritage of DU at UT inspires them. I have met a few of the DU's and liberal they are not. They also seem to be pretty good guys with manners. That is not the norm with some of the other frat guys I've met. Decent parties too.
