cosmic moment
by: IdkIt just dawned on me tonight how scary it is to think that all of this time, I will have been around the same damn people I always knew. That some of us literally recruit based on familiarity and the prospect of going back to Houston/Dallas/Fort Worth and being around the same people. For the rest of our lives. I'm not saying this to judge anyone or put people down if insularity is their thing, but isn't college supposed to open our minds? Shouldn't outsiders be welcomed for the unique backgrounds and stories they bring, and not merely tolerated because they were good enough? Shouldn't we be growing as people? College is one tiny piece of our lives. It may feel like the best thing ever, but it's not the end-all-be-all for people who dare to see themselves anywhere outside of their comfort zones. This sh-t will not matter in 5 years. What you do for others and bring to the world is an inside job, not an insider's job. It starts from the heart. So don't be afraid to get out there and face the uncertain, to be open to people who are different. You never know what you may be missing, or what incredible things await you.
