Connections more than anything. Actives have younger friends from camp, being on the same drill team or in cheerleading together, from NCL or other service organizations that they already know and love. Why wouldn't they want those girls to pledge their houses?

Then there's legacy, especially at Texas. If a PNM's mom and grandma were both Kappas here and just gave $25,000 towards the house remodel, you can bet that girl is going on the list, whether she already has connections or if she's from some tiny town somewhere. PNM's whose moms are major donors or national/regional officers- they go on the list.

Every year girls get into houses with no connections, even Big 6 and PKT within Big 6. But yeah, every house (even not Big 6$ starts rush with a list of girls they want to rush hard.

UT rush sux. Even having a connection isn't enough for some pnms for some houses. They take so few girls overall....

I lucked out onto one of the mid 3 and am thrilled.

^^^She lucked out b/c she is happy with the sorority she pledged. Texas is too big for all this Big 6 crap. That article came out almost 50 years ago. Move on.

Houses have grade cut offs. They see the GPA you have going into recruitment and if it doesn't meet the grade cut off they have in place, you're gone after day 1. The grade cut off is different for each house, but houses that do well in grades have a higher cut off GPA, so they can keep their grade rankings. If you have a questionable reputation or a couple in house girls really don't like you, you're also gone after day 1. When people refer to a list that houses have before rush, it's usually girls that have a letter of rec., a connection to an in house girl, someone that meets the grade cut off. if you have these things and are cute and make a good impression you'll probably stick around at least past day 1.

Lol I was from out of state, knew no one and still got into one of the top houses. Their entire pledge class isn't decided, they just have the names of some of the girls they want. Even then, some of those girls get dropped because not everyone in the house liked them or they weren't high enough on the list. Don't be fooled, it's hard but not impossible. Go in with an open mind, be yourself, and it'll all work out.
