rushing

So I'm confused I always thought rush week was the first couple weeks of school and you get to check out the different houses. But by what I'm reading on this site it seems that rush was during the summer. Could someone clear this up

Sororities do formal recruitment which is the week before school and works how you describe. Fraternities are informal so each fraternity has its own rush process. For top and mid fraternities most of this takes place over the summer. Some middle tier fraternities will be rushing move in weekend, bottom tiers will usually go a while longer. Top is done by now.
