Yes they cut a lot and yes if you make it to pref you will be lucky and honored

"honored"?? I don't think so. More like "you'll come to appreciate your chance for greek life".

Of course they do. The only house that don't make cuts are SDT and to some extent AZD

It depends. Every chapter has to make a certain number of cuts each round. There are a lot of reasons PNMs get cut and that doesn't mean they don't like you but they decide to keep other PNMs higher on their invite list for various reasons even when the PNM is nice and interested.

Understand this: Just about every sorority at UT is competitive (aside from the two mentioned above) and everyone who makes it through to preference and receives a bid is both lucky and honored. Don't forget that even though it's mutual selection, the sororities are really in charge of the invite list. Even if you are the perfect PNM and want particular sororities more than life itself it won't matter if you aren't high enough on their list.

Keep an open mind. Be nice to everyone in every sorority, every other PNM, recruitment counselors ... everyone. Don't gossip. Don't listen to gossip. Make up your own mind based on how you feel not what others say. Treat every day as an opportunity to get to know the sororities that still want to get to know you further. Those are the things that will give you the best odds of receiving a bid to a sorority at UT.

some chapters are less competitive than others: KD, ADPi, AZD and SDT. Lower tier chapters.

it's not hard to make it to pref but yes, they do make some cuts (but not the others above them).

Really?

No. It's hard to make it to preferences with almost every sorority. Lots of PNMs get dropped right before preference, and that's not counting the ones that drop out because they think they deserve better than what they have left. Do not assume anything with UT recruitment. Keep an open mind.

One of the keys to success, in addition to keeping an open mind, is ranking strategically in the early rounds and being brutally honest with yourself. After reading all the sorority information here, be honest with yourself. Do you really think you have a chance with PKT or the Big Six? Often PNMs get so focused on wanting to be in the "top" chapters, that they rank them high after open house round and rank the "lower" chapters at their bottom. Then they do get invited back to the "top" houses for second and sometimes third round while their "lower" options, where they actually would fit in best and have a better chance with, dwindle with every round because they keep ranking them lowest and get invited back to higher houses. Then the hammer drops before preference and they end up dropped by the higher houses and have few to no other options left. Really be honest with yourself and rank accordingly in the early rounds.

But I thought the houses will not know what we ranked them so why does it matter?

They don't. You have no way of knowing where you appear on their lists each day and they have no way of knowing how you ranked them. The computer matches and issues the invites based on where you appear on a sorority's invite list and then on where you ranked them. The "lower" houses generally are required to invite more PNMs back for each round than the "higher" houses, so with strategic ranking, you're going with the idea that you will have better odds of getting invited back to those "lower" houses for each round. You're ranking high the houses that you have a statistically higher chance of getting invited back to so that you'll continue to have attainable options as the rounds go on.

So if yo have invites back to several houses it's good to keep a lower tier around for a fallback. Like ADPi or KD.

Yes, keeping a fallback house or two in your mix will increase your odds of not getting dropped before preference.

So if you keep all the lower tier houses in your rankings it shouldn't be hard to get a bid?

I wouldn't say it won't be hard, but it will increase your chances of not getting completely dropped.

if you keep an open mind (code for "if you are open to the lower tiers") then, yes, you will make it to pref and get a bid.

Axid and KD and adpi all make huge cuts. Especially if you're out of state or not connected you probably will get dropped. Just keep an open mind and don't get too committed to a chapter until pref night the earliest. All the chapters At UT are good... Even "bottom tier". Bottom tier here is like middle tier everywhere else

So KD Adpi and Axid all will drop you without connections in the house easily?
