Is there any way I can make connections before I rush?

"Connections" are built up over time, not with some opportunistic PNM who's trying to make friends because she wants something from us. Plus we're in the silent period so we aren't even supposed to be talking to people we actually know.

I meant for recommendations letters my bad. Like how do we find people to write them?

It's late in the process but if you have truly exhausted your network of friends and your family's friends, contact your local alumna panhellenic. Understand that an information only recommendation from a stranger will not hold the kind of weight that a recommendation from someone who knows you does.

You have another year for something to happen. You never know. People flame out all the time, get sick etc etc. You can't take it for granted as a junior. Get off this site now. It's poison and you don't need to be here.

This is UT. We all have high GPAs. No one is going to be impressed with your GPA or rank. I agree get off this site. Go concentrate on high school.

My suggestions for a rising high school senior:

1. Focus on your senior year. Keep your grades up so that you do get in to UT, keep up your commitments to your high school activities, and enjoy all the fun things you get to do your senior year.

2. If you have any friends who are a year or two ahead and go to UT, keep in touch with them. Those are the connections we talk about on here. If they aren't already your friends, this is creepy and won't work.

3. Early next spring, start to put together your social resume and get your pictures taken. Also, begin to ask potential rec writers if they are willing to help. You absolutely need at least one rec for every house here. Here are some ideas on who to ask: your friends' moms/ grandmas/ older sisters who are out of college, your moms' good friends, your teachers or activity advisors, women from your church/ country club/ other town connections, your neighbors, women from your job or families you babysit for, etc. Don't assume these women weren't in sororities. Ask, ask, ask!!
