rushee from ny

I'm flying in for the June 20-22 orientation and I am only in Austin for those days. If I don't get a bid from the frats I rush while I'm in Austin does that mean they didn't want me? Or is there a chance they text me giving me a bid. I'm confused as to how rush works for oos kids as we only meet the fraternities a few times.

Idk which ones you're rushing but I doubt they'll give you a bid after showing up once. If youre rushing mid tiers like pike/ato/phi psi/phi delt you could have a chance at getting one because theyre still rushing move in weekend

Most bids are given out at state parties or other big rush events

What about ZBT, KA, sigma chi, kappa sig?

You'll need to go to a few events and they'll give it to you at a big rush event with other rushees, most likely a state party

No one but desperate bottom tier is going to give you a bid based on that short amount of time

Your only hope will be with lower houses that are still rushing during move in weekend

I don't get it for oos kids either. It's kind of strange but it seems that the middle or upper frats don't seem to want us. They do their rush in the summer or even senior year in high school and so much is based on who you know. am I missing something or is that how it is?

That's how it is. You'll have a good chance at pike and ato. Pikes chapter is literally like 30% OOS kids. All the upper and top have pretty much all in state kids with connections to older guys already in the fraternity. Id say each of them have 6 or less OOS kids in each pc out of 45-55 people, and 3/5 of those oos kids have some kind of connection to the fraternity

But you can show up to sigma chi, Delt, KA, MAYBE ksig last minute (last minute meaning 2-3weeka before school starts) and if you make a REALLY badass impression they'd probably take you.

We want kids we already know. We don't need to take chances with a NY Guido.

So OP. Did you rush with any frats over orientation week? Who have you heard from that's having parties? Did you get a bid/indication that you might get a bid?

I kind of wonder too since all the usual fraternities that still have spots for pledges didn't seem to have any parties for orientation. Don't know how an OOS kid like that is going to get a bid that way unless it's over move in.

Isnt ZBT a lot of oos kids, yet they are somewhere in the top 5 frats? So how did those oos kids get bids?

Two ways:
1. They already know members from back home
2. They make the effort to get to rush parties

Y'all need to make an effort. No one's going to give a bid to an unknown someone they meet at one party
