new member average
by: BBWhy is the highest average of new member GPA a 3.48 at the university when a people on different forums say sororities cut people based on GPA. The minimum I've heard lately is a 3.5

You DO realize that a college GPA of 3.5 is A LOT HARDER to get than a high school GPA of 3.5. My guess is that most people's freshman GPA is at least .5 lower than their high school GPA- the classes are harder, time management can be a big struggle making it hard to give 100% to classes, new friends, and sorority/other activities. The girls getting 3.5's their freshman year were the ones making straight A+'s in Honors & AP in high school (at good schools, not random tiny ones).
For sophomores going through rush, your chances are going to be highest if your freshman GPA was at or above the chapter's average. Doesn't mean girls with lower GPA's don't get bids, but it will be easier if you are above.

But isn't the new member GPA average for UT the average of all girls who got initiated with their high school GPAs? Or is the new member GPA calculated after they complete a semester or a year of college?
