about sorority recruitment
by: questionI'm going to be going through sorority recruitment in the fall, and I'm afraid I'm going to cut from every chapter. I heard that if you maximize your options your will get a bid at a house, as long as you were invited to at least one house on pref night. I know a lot of girls drop out if they are not invited back to the big 6,but how many girls get released from rush if they maximize their options?

Honestly, not that many. Of the girls who don't get bids, I've heard 80% or more drop out vs being completely dropped.
If you do want to be a little more strategic about ranking every day, just remember that almost every pnm will want Big 6 and think they're a shoo-in even though less than half of the pnms get Big 6 bids. So as you rank the houses you want to return to each day, if you still happen to have all six Big 6 in 10 party round, I'd make sure you rank 1-2 of the other houses that you liked the most in your top 6 to give you more chances for a bid. It seems like every year there are a few girls who carry all 6 to Skit and then get dropped by all 6 houses the morning of pref.
If PNM's are honest with themselves, they know whether they really have a shot at PKT or Big 6 or not. I had all 6 Big 6 for Philanthropy, but ended up with only 3 invitafions to skit (1 Big 6 and 2 mid-tiers I hadn't really thought much about earlier in the week). I prefffed the 2 mid-tiers and got a bid to one of them. I've been so happy in my house so I just wish I had focused my attention on the houses where there were more girls like me all week and not been obsessed with Big 6. Even if you are "Big 6" material, I still think it's better to keep a mid-tier option on your schedule- like no HP girls ever seem to go Zeta so they should try to keep AXO or Alpha Phi as a Big 6 backup since HP girls do pledge there sometimes.

^^^^this
if u think u are big 6 material, still include alpha chi/alpha phi in the mix, as they are super; you will get cut from big 6 unless you have 40 actives pulling for u and to be honest, alpha chi/alpha phi cut the heck out of girls, too. u just gotta be open for ut rush, for sure.

Thank you for the advice but I know I am not big 6 as I really have no connections in those (or any ) houses. I went to a very small parochial school and don't know too many girls. I am attractive and personable but a little quiet until you get to know me. I think a sorority will be good to make friendships but I'm not very status conscience. How should I approach it?

ALL chapters have great sorority fun: mixers, bigs/littles, work week, philanthropy and their own traditions. ALL chapters have smart & accomplished women.
The only difference is:
The top of the Big 6 (pkt) have a little more money and know each other already; the bottom of the Big 6 (chio, ddd, zeta) couldn't get into the top of the Big 6;
The mid 3 (alpha chi,alpha phi, dg) tend to be attractive & couldn't get into zeta for whatever reason.
The bottoms (adpi, kd, azd, sdt) tend to have more shy and more quirky girls or even bookish girls and may have just a BIT less on looks throughout their entire group (not to say they don't have some really pretty girls).
ALL CHAPTERS HAVE TRADITIONS, MIXERS, THEIR OWN SPOT TO HANG, SEMI FORMALS, TONS OF FUN, SISTERHOOD STUFF, STRONG NATIONALS, ETC.

I've read the mean comments about sdt so decided to check the sdt Texas fb, website and videos. They seem like a nice fun group with (gasp) diversity ! I hope the rest of the Greek community starts to support each other and pnms ignore the comments. Sure not having a house can be a negative but other than that there's nothing wrong with sdt.

@^ who do you think you are calling sdt that little freak show. If you think you're so much better than they are strictly because of the status of your sorority you are sadly mistaken. Or you are so desperately insecure. If you're for real I feel very sorry for you. I'd gladly accept a bid from any bottom tier than have to call you my sorority sister. Peace out.
