transfer

by: Hmmmm

I'm thinking about transferring to UT next year (spring semester because it's too late to transfer for the fall) and I am a Pi Phi at my current university. I know previous posts have said it depends on what school you go to to see if houses at UT will accept you but I can assure you the university I currently attend is very reputable and Pi Phi is a top house here. What are the chances I have of being "accepted" at UT? Are the Pi Phi girls welcoming?

If it's a good school and a quality chapter you might make it 50:50.

Are you from Texas? Do girls from your high school and summer camp go PiPhi (or Theta or Kappa) here? If so, were you friends with them or involved in the same activities? If so, you have a strong chance they'll affiliate you. If not, you're going to need to rely on the strength of your PiPhi chapter's reputation (i.e., good chance if you're transferring from SMU, less so if you're transferring from A&M).

Yes I am from Texas however, I don't think I know of anyone from my high school that has pledged Pi Phi. I do know a lot that have pledged other "top" houses such as Theta, Chi O, and Zeta though. So if I were from let's say, Baylor, TCU, or OU, where Pi Phi is a "top" chapter at all, what would my chances be of getting accepted from all 3 of those schools?

To be perfectly honest, i've never heard of someone not being accepted as a transfer into a chapter, unless there was a questionable reputation issue. People say its super exclusive and hard to do, but i think they just want it to appear that way. If you have pledged and are a member of the sisterhood already, there really isnt much they can do to tell you that you cannot affiliate. Granted, if the chapter is a really different personality than the one you pledged at, its possible that you might not "click" with the girls here, but chapters are so large here and their membership so varied that i would be very surprised if you didn't find friends at the UT chapter of your house. Also, not a PiPhi, but for what its worth, my friends in that house are super nice, down to earth girls who i would have a hard time imagining telling a sister from another chapter that she couldn't affiliate.

I don't think it happens very often anymore, but years ago Texas girls who didn't think they'd get PKT here would go to out-of-state schools and pledge weak PKT chapters and the transfer to UT after initiation. If someone gets caught pulling this stunt, I'd imagine it would be quite difficult for them to affiliate at UT.
