They aren't even a sorority. Scary random club. Do yourself a favor and join a service group if this is your only choice.

The Acacia of sororities. First of all, them doing formal recruitment wasn't a choice made by the sisters, so calm down, GR. However that doesn't change how bad this sorority is. SDT makes you pay more money to have less of a social life than Darlins or Spirits or any of those spirit groups you see on campus. Even the bottom tier fraternities they get to mix with don't care much for them. And yet they still try so hard to be a legit sorority when really what they need is to first be fun people.

NEW ON GREEKRANK

Fact is, SDT was on a good track leading into 2012. They were growing their chapter through COB and focusing on recruiting solid girls. Then the national team came in during 2012 and ignored all of the advice and recommendation the chapter members gave them, and pushed a the chapter into formal recruitment before it was ready with a house or solid group of girls. Sorry to girls who hoped for a true sorority experience and got SDT. The girls are great, but not the traditional experience you want.

Respect what they are trying to do, but it is making it hard for girls rushing to end up happy. They obviously have strong sisterhood to put up with all the grief they get. Really think they should switch to only COB versus formal.

I got a bid from them not knowing how bad they were! I dropped. I wish I knew more about greek life before. Now I will never have a true sorority experience and this makes me so sad. I will not get over this.

there's no getting around the fact that the pledge quotas of the other 13 chapters with houses are reduced by 5-6 girls EACH because SDT raises the divisor into total PNMs attending Pref Night from 13 to 14 -- which is how the quota is derived. Subtract the # of girls who accept an SDT bid -- 10, 20? That means that 45-70 girls EACH YEAR get skunked -- possibly forever -- just because of math due to SDT's participation in formal recruitment. UT's Greek system has always been focused on Houses; it's not fair to compare the situation to schools in other areas where none or less than half of the chapters have houses. I bet SDT would have a MUCH better image and relations with their fellow Greeks if they devoted their energy to COB. Panhellenic needs to quit singing Kum-Ba-Ya long enough to show some sane leadership. 50 girls a year screwed by SDT x X number of years = pretty soon you've developed a group of disappointed girls whose numbers GREATLY EXCEED the number of SDT members in a given year.

when I was going through rush, I felt so uncomfortable at SDT. so random. so awkward. I would honestly rather not be in a sorority at all than have to accept a bid from SDT.
