size diversity

by:

In looking at the sorority websites here, I don't see a lot of size diversity. I'm a bigger woman and I'm thinking of going through recruitment. Is this something practical to pursue, or would my strengths and talents be put to better use somewhere else?

The sororities are diverse on most things, but I'm not sure if size is one of them. Give it a try though. You never know.

You could remedy this in time for recruitment by stop stuffing your face. Walk, workout and quit the sugar and carbs.

An obvious mistake in application selection by admissions. Forgot to include "classless" on the attributes section.

Harvard is a cold and dark place for larger women. There aren't many of us here. It doesn't go along with the super "Type A - Achiever" group they are looking for in the vetting process. My high school guidance counselor was SHOCKED I got in here, and admitted it was because of my size. Now I know why. There are very few of us. Good Luck. You will need it if you go through recruitment.

I hear ya when it comes to lack of knowledge about size diversity at this school. It is actually hard to believe it is 2016 and we are at an IVY league school. People make the most ignorant comments about larger people. That said, I would encourage anyone to go through recruitment. My sorority tries to be diverse.

How did it work out for the big girls? I'm wondering for myself next year.

size diversity?? no one is trying to set/meet a quota of heavy women. come on. not being rude but you need to get healthy instead of trying to find a place that accepts unhealthyness. what a bunch of junk we've got going on.....trying to put larger women in fashion magazines, etc....as if it's OK to be heavy and unhealthy. shame actually motivates people to IMPROVE. that's what happened for me. I lost 60 pounds by mixing in salads, not eating too late, walking daily and doing my own housework....gosh.

So not disputing your argument that we should all aim to be healthier- but you should definitely check out the research about shame and weight loss. Some pretty recent studies show that shame actually demotivates people and can even lead to unhealthier habits among the overweight. Let's also not forget that shame leads down a slippery slope to eating disorders.

Sad it is 2016 and some people still think that you can determine a person's health by looking at them.
