nose piercing affecting rush for sorority?
by: lkbmraSo i'm planning on rushing next month (yay! super excited!) but i also really want to get a nose piercing the week that I get to school. Will having a nose piercing affect the way sororities view me and want to rush me? also do a lot of actives in any sorority have nose piercings? just curious. i don't want to base my life around how other people view me but i don't want a piece of metal to affect my next four years of college and who i spend them with.

No one will care. Lots of girls in sororities (including some in my house) have nose piercings and/or other body/face piercings. As long as you are put together in other ways (dress, conversationally, etc), you'll be fine. That said, I'd maybe wait to get the piercing if I were you. The first month of school I was all about getting a bunch of cartilage piercings and went with my friend. She got them, I chickened out. I'm glad that I did---she's had a ton of infections, etc. I did get my navel pieced, though, and have been happy with that.

Great question. I have a hoop but that's the only face piercing I have and I was worried as well. Also regarding the infection comment no matter how well you take care of it for the first few months you will be on and off with having bumps. So I don't really think waiting will change anything. I have other cartilage piercings which if you work hard it won't get infected but even when I worked at the nose piercing it still got infected. I say go for it! You'll love it :)

Don't drastically change your appearance right before recruitment. If your nose ring gets infected or it looks weird because the piercer screwed it up, not only will it look bad but you will be distracted by being self-conscious. Plus, if you have to take it out during recruitment then you have a hole in your skin and it will look sloppy to have a nose ring hole without a nose ring in it. You might get shy or uncomfortable at houses too because of problems with the nose ring.
Its just a nose ring, it can wait until a week after recruitment. Adding unpredictable variables into starting a new school, new living situation, AND sorority recruitment is a bad recipe. If you do this and it works out though that is fantastic!
Why do you want it now rather than later?

Okay enough! To answer your question, having a rose piercing is conpletely okay! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. So many peoe have them, it's not tacky and no one cares. If someone tells you a piercing is a deal breaker for them, they honestly have bigger issues. I used to be the Vice President of RECRUITMENT for my house and I've had mine pierced since freshman year and I got it done right before recruitment. So everyone, leave this poor girl alone and let her do what she wants!

Sure. Completely OK in YOUR house, but it's considered pretty tacky in my top tier house. You can do what you want, but just make sure you know many people will think you are a walking cliche. If a nose ring is more important than pledging a good house, well, go for it. Don't say you weren't warned.
