sophomore rushing frat

by: Soph

I'm a sophomore guy and I want to rush but I had bad grades last year (did really well in high school 31 ACT). How big of an impact will this have on me getting a bid?

the fact you are a sophomore and had bad grades will hurt a lot. will show that you can't really handle a college workload. most houses actually kinda care about average gpa cuz it keeps them in good standing with the school.

unless you know brothers, it might be a deal breaker. like why take someone who has two black marks (age, grades) on them instead of an incoming freshman who has neither

Also, your pledging semester is statistically your worst semester GPA wise. If you are struggling with school, my personal advice to you would be to put school first.
However, if you are set on rushing I would say go for it and do not worry too much about how your GPA would affect your rush process. If you are a great fit with the fraternity that will take priority. My advice would also be to not bring it up. I'm not saying to lie, but don't be the one to put it on the table.

Thanks for the reply, if I'm going to be at Madison for four more years do you think that would have an impact at all. Basically what happened is I had a lot of stuff going on that forced be to be away from campus for a long time so now I'm like retaking my year with a new major.

Have you considered transferring and starting over? It is really difficult to overcome a bad GPA, but if you transfer to another school you may get credit for some of the classes but the grades won't be counted in your GPA. I agree with the person above: maybe fraternity life isn't for you. Seems you maybe should have other priorities. Best of luck to you.

^ Sounds like a troll again, so literally ignore all this BS above.

Obviously you don't need to transfer because of a semester or two of bad grades. And you don't need to hesitate from Greek life because that idiot told you it "might not be for you." I think that if you want to rush, you should rush. Simple as that.

Everyone knows being a douchey frat rat is MUCH MORE important than succeeding academically.
