rushing as a junior(strat)
by: JuniorI'm transferring as a junior this fall and will be here for 3 years, not 2. I was about to join another sorority at my old school, but a week before initiation, I was accepted into Madison so I decided not to go through with it since there wasn't an active chapter on this campus. Is there any chance that I will get a bid if I rush this fall?

It's not really a lie though. Seems to be that she'll be a standing sophomore regardless of how long she's been in college

it'll be seen as a lie and like you're hiding something if people find out the truth during rush and that will hurt your chances

Seems there is a simply way to settle this. How many credits does UW give you credit for? It's highly unlikely that they will give you credit for everything you have taken. They are jerks about that and people who transfer usually wind up taking classes over. So just tell them you are whatever the university says you are. Also, if there is an inconsistency, recs can clarify things, so be sure to get them.

That's ridiculous! I say rush if you really want to and it's something you can commit to.
I know tons of sophomores that got into great houses like Alpha Phi, DG and Gphi last year so I wouldn't worry too much. There are houses that WILL take juniors and make exceptions for a pnm if they really like them and feel they can be an asset to the house.

Lots of sophomores in every sorority pledge class last year (accept maybe AEPhi?). Honestly, when a sorority pledges a bunch of "desirable" (cute, good personality, lots of friends on campus/in the greek system), I think more highly of them. I mean, these are the girls that have already been on campus for a year and know all the rumors and stereotypes and aren't necessarily rushing to gain a set group of friends (like many freshman who don't know many people yet), and they CHOSE to be a member of XYZ. It says a lot about XYZ's caliber of members and sisterhood.

Are there houses that are known to be more popular with sophomores or more open to taking them?

I'd say that almost every sorority takes sophomores, but some are more receptive than others, and it really has nothing to do with tiers. It seems like it's just the way they do things:
Very receptive: Aphi, Theta, Tridelt, AXiD, PiPhi
Receptive: DG, GPhi, AXO, XO
Not as receptive: AEPhi, KKG, SDT
