sophomore rushing?

by:

So, I'm currently a freshman here at Madison and missed fall rush but definitely want to rush next fall. Is it a lot more competitive to get into a sorority when rushing as a sophomore, or do girls find it awkward being in a pledge class with mostly freshman? Are any sororities more "sophomore friendly" than others? Thanks!

I rushed as a sophomore this year and it worked out for me so well! I obviously love the chapter I ended up in and the girls in my pledge class are the best, it's definitly not awkward that they're mostly freshman. I've come to be really close with the other sophomores in my PC, freshman, and girls in the older PC, so that's actually an advantage I've found in rushing as a sophomore. Although it really worked out for me, the majority of my sophomore friends dropped out of rush because they didn't get asked back to the houses they wanted. So I definitely think it's a bit more competitive to rush as a sophomore, especially if you have preconceived notion of which house you might want to end up in going into it. So my advice would be to keep an open mind going through the process and don't let any prior opinions of houses limit you during rush. Good luck, I hope this was helpful!!

I had a really similar experience, except most of my sophomore friends received bids (gphi, dg, axo, piphi, theta). Just keep an open mind---I did not end up in the house that I thought I would (an upper middle tier in which I had "friends"), but it was DEFINITELY for the best. Moral of the story: keep an open mind. PS My best friends in the house are now a mix of freshmen and sophomores.
