real rankings
by: UWSo I am in HS and want to rush a sorority next fall. How seriously should I take the rankings on here? What is the real rank?

the rankings are here are just opinion, and I sincerely think every house on this campus is great (I bet if you put all the sorority girls in a room, you'd only be able to correctly guess half of their affiliations). That said, there are loose tiers going on, so here they are (with no real order in each tier and this is my opinion):
Gamma Phi, Kappa, DG
AXO, AEPhi
PiPhi, APhi, XO
AXiD, Theta, Tridelt, SDT
Just a note: I had my heart set on a certain house (based on rep) when I started rush. Guess what? Turns out I didn't like them when I actually spent time there. Moral of the story is keep an open mind.

The Tier system is flawed. It gives off the impression that there is good, better, best sororities which is not the case. Every house is different. The most important thing is to go into wanting to be in the BEST chapter for YOU. I wouldn't want to be in any chapter other than mine regardless of our "rank" and I'm so glad I got there. You just have to talk to the girls and try to get a good feel for what they're all about and see if it matches you. There's more shame in being in a house you hate for superficial reasons than for being "bottom tier".
Comparing sororities is comparing apples and oranges because they're all so different and are meant for different types of girls to find their home on campus, that's why there are so many. Going into it, think about what you're looking for in lifelong sisters.
Good luck with rush! We can't wait to meet you!

this is the realest most accepted ranking you are going to get out of anyone.
No order within tiers
Gphi/kappa/dg
axo
pipho/aphi
aephi/xo
theta/tridelt
sdt
That's just how it is.
As for how much stock you should put into rankings? I mean they are correlative with popularity, not with how much you personally will enjoy them. If you didn't get along with the popular girls in highschool, you probably wont be too good of a fit for the top houses. Likewise, if you were one of the popular girls, you probably aren't a good fit for a lower tier house. When it comes down to it, you should go through rush without any preconcieved notions or preferences. You will learn more in your first minute inside a house than hours on this website will ever tell you.

Actually, these rankings by tiers are fairly accurate. Of course where each house sits within the tier is totally subjective. Anyone who disagrees is probably an Aphi or Piphi--these are the social climbing tier/ranking obsessed girls.
I also think you should keep an open mind while going through rush. However, I don't think there is anything wrong with doing some research beforehand. Getting to know the reps of the houses, talking to girls you may know already in the Greek system only helps you make an informed opinion. Then it should come down to where you feel most and feel most welcome while rushing. Good luck!!!
