best freshman housing
by: FuturebadgerWhich places would you recommend staying in if your an out of state freshman interested in greek life?
#2by: Dorms
Living in Lakeshore WILL ruin your chances with some houses. If you are seriously concerned about living in Lakeshore, try to get into a learning community in Sellery or Witte to guarantee your spot there. Chadbourne is also an option but you will for sure be surrounded by really awkward people. Ogg will be for upperclassmen only next year, so if you're living in the public dorms: 1)Witte 2)Sellery 3)Smith 4)Chadbourne and don't even rank the others.
I would highly recommend a private dorm like Lucky or Statesider. Most of their freshmen rush and it is definitely a more desirable location. Statesider also doesn't have all the wacked out rules and programming UW Housing does.

Living in lakeshore will not ruin your chances of getting a bid to any house whatsoever. You may feel left out and not be as involved with the girls in your sorority once you do join a house, but during recruitment nobody cares about where you live. We care about who you are as a person. We won't even remember what dorm you live in and may not even ask because that isn't going to matter/stick out/help us to remember you!
That being said, go for Witte or Sellery because those are the most fun and social and you will definitely meet a lot of other Greeks! If you do end up in lakeshore, it isn't the end of the world and you can always try to switch into Witte or Sellery for second semester! Good luck!
