go out during your first week on campus! You're gonna want to make friends on your floor and go out with them before rush starts. Regardless of whether you're allowed to go out during rush you won't want to, you do NOT want to be hungover for all that girl flirting in no air conditioning

it's your first week of college, yes go out and make friends but be smart about it. my freshman year we avoided older girls so they didn't get an impression of us before recruitment, but we also were smart enough to not get sloppy drunk. keep this in mind especially the nights before rush events. us girls that were rushing still managed to have sober fun the nights before so we weren't hungover during recruitment, that's the last thing you want.

you also don't want to make a bad impression on girls who are already in sororities, being falling over drunk and getting sick before recruitment. They will remember you.
