SigEp returns!

by:

The Wisconsin chapter of the Sigma Phi Epsilon National Fraternity recently announced the launch of a rebuilding program that will result in an undergraduate organization that is not just the best fraternity on campus, but the best student organization on campus.Sigma Phi Epsilon is successful because SigEp is different. SigEp’s award-winning The Balanced Man Program (BMP) is exactly what young men need today -- a continuous development experience focused on scholarship, leadership, and life skills that complements the classroom curriculum. Refinement of these crucial skills helps SigEp brothers succeed upon graduation and prepares them to achieve balance and satisfaction in every aspect of their lives.

SigEp's Balanced Man App empowers brothers and offers students an unparalleled fraternal development experience. After signing into the app, a brother lands on his very own personalized homepage. Here he monitors his progress on BMP challenges and development in live time, examine his percentage of completed activities, and reviews the number of days left in his current challenge. He is able to do all of this at a glance before moving on to another feature of the BMP app. His profile allows him to record and write reflective thoughts on his personal BMP experience. Here he reviews his past, present and future challenges, sees his challenge mentors and contacts them immediately to schedule the next challenge. Additionally he can access the in-app directory of chapter brother profiles so he can see how his brothers are progressing through their challenges, creating more opportunities for chapter competition, friendly rivalry and encouragement. On his activities page, he can conveniently access a list of challenge activities so that he can mark an activity as complete and then attach photos and documents as evidence. As as member updates his personalized challenge tracker, his challenge coordinator will be notified in real time. Coordinators and vice presidents of member development are able to access a list of all brothers in any given challenge to monitor their individual progress and percentage of completed activities and meetings. Brothers and officers can post to the newsfeed to inform each other about upcoming meetings, events and personal milestones. As you would expect with any social media feature, brothers are able to like and comment on other members’ posts, making the BMP more personal and interactive than ever before. Whether it’s managing personal challenge information, calling or emailing brothers from the in-app directory or exporting meeting and activity due dates to your mobile calendar, the app is SigEp’s all-in-one tool designed to help chapters build brotherhood, pursue the Balanced Man Ideal, and make the most of their SigEp experience.

I was in Sig Eps on a different campus, decades ago.

But the national fraternity has changed, they do not allow their members to have a drink, it is 1920 style prohibition, so while everyone else on campus is partying, they get kicked off campus for having a beer.

Bad deal, bad policy, stupid idea!

Nobody wants to be in a fraternity that doesn’t allow alcohol. Go away.

The hardest part of the transition from drinking club to a substance-free service organization is making this philosophical shift in the membership and community. The National fraternity is supporting chapter leaders across the country who are really bought in to making SigEp a substance-free development program. We can be confident that SigEp is on the right path. It will somewhat different, and certainly a lot less risky social program than what alumni remember, but it will be an even stronger brotherhood with real accountability when brothers make bad choices.

Fraternities as they exist now are facing a crisis. Only 11% of students come to Madison interested in joining a fraternity. This declining interest has coincided with the fact that members of fraternities are far more likely to drink in excess than the average student. Because our SigEp chapter will have a substance-free policy, we will recruit better candidates and have stronger manpower than other fraternities chapters that are regrettably still beholden to illegal and dangerous drinking. SigEp is modeling a new way and new future for other Madison fraternities to follow.

Dry frat, no pledging, just online brotherhood. The worst thing about joining Sig Ep is having to install the Balanced Man app on your phone so that Nationals can track you

Does the app use location services?

In all honesty, if the new alcohol ban was the sole reason a potential new member didn't want to join SigEp they likely wouldn't be a good fit for SigEp. Alcohol has become a central focus of fraternity life and we want to demonstrate clearly that SigEp's priorities lie with preparing our men to become confident, values based leaders.

Not going to join a fraternity whose national organization thinks its job is to police its own members.

It’s not our fault that the national organization was taken over by leaders with bad judgment.

Imbalanced man!

I lowkey understand where sigep nationals are coming from but that aint gonna work. Sounds nice on paper to be a service-based non drinking organization but it ain’t practical. Change your national name to the rotary club or something if that’s your goal. But ofc nationals wont understand that bc nationals workers are nerds that follow the rules
