Pledge classes are too big?

by:

Maybe it is just me but I don’t think it is good for a sorority to be too big. A pledge class size around 60 is the max, more than that and it just doesn’t feel like there is a sisterhood. I don’t want to become like one of the southern college mega chapters. Given the large number of girls who rushed this year and so many who did not find a house, maybe there is room for a couple of new chapters at Madison. Has this been discussed? Are there any looking to start new chapters here?

I think the rule is “last off, first on.” There used to be a Alpha Gamma Delta chapter. They went off campus during the late 80’s. Maybe they might consider coming back on campus.

AGD would be great! I think since this is the second year in a row of a giant PC there would be an opportunity for expansion. But it is hard to be the new kid in town—takes many many years to build it back up. The good thing about AGD is that those 1980’s moms probably have daughters entering college right now so that could help.

Zeta Tau Alpha was supposed to participate in recruitment this year, but because it was online they decided to hold off till next year. And the last off, first on the statement is completely false.

Another good thing is a new chapter usually recruits a whole sorority which means even upperclassmen who might want to try Greek life before they graduate will have a chance. If someone from Panhel sees this out this on your agenda and see if AGD or another house is looking to expand in the Big Ten.

The poster that spoke about ZTA was spot on. There is NO way panhel will even think about adding another sorority (AGD or another org) until ZTA has a chance to successfully colonize and go through at least one or two formal recruitments after that.

And for a big university, pledge classes b/t 70 and 80 aren’t abnormal. Slightly abnormal for WI, atleast historically, but not overall. There are some universities that are Wisco’s size that have pledge classes ranging from 100-200. Now that’s insane.
