transferring and rushing a sorority
by: ptI am transferring for next fall. I'll be a junior. UW has a lot of junior transfers; do a lot of them rush? Is there any chance I would get a bid to any house as a junior? Would I be the only new junior in that sorority? I want to be in a sorority, but I don't want to be forced to hang out with only freshman because I feel I would not have that much in common with them.

Also, how prevalent is greek life on campus? At my current school only 18-20% of people are in greek life, but it has a really huge presence. Almost everyone who likes to go out is in greek life. I wish I had joined greek life here. It just didn't work out though. Also, people here are really critical of other sororities/fraternities. (For example, girls won't mix with certain frats because they don't think they're "cool enough.")
Is that how it is at UW? From the people I know who go there, I'd say no. UW seems friendlier and more fun than the average school. I just don't want to transfer and be alone with nothing to do.

Definitely try! I know a lot of transfers that went through recruitment with me who were successful in getting a bid, and I also know that there is going to be a new sorority colonizing next fall, which means that they are offering more bids to upperclassmen if they choose to be in the colony.
