rushing as a sophomore

by:

I’m thinking of rushing in the fall as a sophomore but I’m worried about it. Do sororities look down on sophomores rushing/is it harder to get in one?? Any suggestions on what sororities are open to sophomores?? Please help!

This has been discussed many times on here, but in my experience sophomores are only at a slight disadvantage. I barely knew any girls in sororities my freshmen year, nor did I have definitive views on the reps of the houses. I was just myself, and I found a home in my top choice. I had a really good rush, and was only “cut” by 2 sororities the entire process, and one of those sororities has/had a rep for cutting sophomores. I know it sounds cliche and annoying, but I think that 99% of women wind up in the sorority that’s right for them. Anyway, so far, it’s been one of the best decisions that I’ve made in college, so I highly recommend it.

My advice: don't do it. As a sophomore that rushed last year, I witnessed each sorority only take a few sophomores (if any). One house I had pref night at ended up only taking 2 sophomores I believe. It is more competitive as a sophomore because there are fewer spots for sophomores in each house. 95% of the pledge class will be freshmen too, so it is harder to get to know girls your age. Plus, most people drop out of greek life as upperclassmen. Between the money and logistics, I would really think about whether or not it is worth it for you. (UNLESS you already have friends in the house, I would advise against rushing)

I rushed as a sophomore and know a bunch of girls that did it as well. Speaking from my experience my pc has a decent amount of sopmores in it and so do many other sororities on campus. Go through the process and see where it takes you. It doesn’t hurt to go through the process, especially if you keep an open mind.
