is gpa considered when handing out bids?

by: qw

I didn't do too well first semester. If I want to rush a fraternity in the spring, will this prevent me from getting a bid?

For the most part I don’t think so, but if you’re below their required house minimum gpa there’s a chance they could question giving you a bid so be ready to explain yourself because they will 100% ask you about it. They want to give bids to kids who will positively contribute for 4 years, not someone who they’re going to have to put on some form of social probation because of grades right after being initiated. Btw, pledging isn’t going to help your gpa at all. All my friends have said their lowest semester gpa was when they were pledging. One bad semester isn’t going to kill you but having a low gpa your first year of college will be hard to recover from. Ask yourself why you got a low gpa last semester and then factor pledging into that.
