rush question
by: NewbieI'm a freshman girl interested in rush. Is it super competitive here? I didn't think so but I've heard from some friends that Kappa is THE only house that matters and really hard to get in to. Are the other houses a lot easier but will I have a bad time if I join those? Are the other ones that much worse? I don't even know the difference.

Ppl will tell you relax, have fun, it's a breeze etc but the truth is it's more competitive than you think, especially if you have your heart set on a house like Kappa. 75% of my Rush group last year really wanted that house and were crushed when they got cut.
Just be prepared, unless you are gorgeous, wealthy (and I don't mean Upper middle class from the Midwest, I mean rich--like in NY or LA terms), sophisticated and well traveled, no matter how great you think your conversations go there, they won't be seriously considering you.

Everyone just chill out! It's an innocent enough, if not totally misinformed, question so no need to get all worked up.
Believe it or not, there are a lot of incorrect perceptions like this coming into rush. No need to jump down people's throats.
(Also, it could be a reflection of how well Kappa manages their PR, social media, alumni network etc.)

all the houses are competitive and a solid 100 girls usually do not get bids at all. kappa or other "top" sororities are not widely more competitive than the rest if you fit in there, but they tend to be more popular to rank higher just by nature of being well known both nationally and on UW campus . just keep an open mind and figure out where you fit in while putting your best food forward!

Panhel tries to make it so every girl gets into a house. They added another round this year to help with that.
If you're only thinking of the popularity aspect, which by the way is completely dumb, there are 5 houses that will get you there even though they aren't all "top" (I'm not aphi but we have to admit that they get to hang out with top frats). Those 5 sororities will each take around 50-60 girls I think so that gives you like a 300/1000 or 30% chance.
