do houses know if your a legacy?

Simply not how it works. They'll drop you if they think YOU won't be a good fit. Legacy is just added information.

My sister rushed recently and everybody thought she'd join my house (and she eventually did) because she was a current in-house legacy. Despite that, she still had a really great rush and didn't get cut from any of the sororities (which is not usually the norm). So, obviously her strong legacy status didn't really affect how each sorority evaluated her.
