is rushing worth it if you don't think you can pay

by: cirocdon

I currently go to a community college and will be transferring as a junior. I really want to join a sorority as i feel like it'll help me make friends and keep me from being a hermit at madison. however, i don't think i can afford it. I'm not really sure since I don't know how much it costs to be in a sorority. are there any options for somebody like me? will bringing this up when meeting different sororities cause them to not want me?

When you first start going through recruitment you'll receive a pamphlet with information about all the sororities. On one of the pages it will tell you how much each one costs.

right, but are there things to help somebody pay for the costs? such as scholarships or something?

Each chapter has different ways to help their members but I would be hesitant to rely only on that.

Keep in mind that rushing has a fee even if you don't join a sorority. Also you might end up spending more money on sorority things other than just dues, for example philanthropies, formal dresses (but you can always borrow a friend's), misc apparel, and costumes for themed events.
