The parties are great, the charity work is fantastic, the girls are beautiful, the boys are handsome. The dances are a lot of fun, and the sports and academics are tops. Join the fun.

Pretty lame in all honesty. One of the worst Greek Life schools, if not the worst, in all of the BIG 10.

If you want to have fun, if you want to be involved, if you want to have an active social life, if you want to improve your communication skills and make more friends, then join a fraternity or a sorority, and enjoy your four years at college.

UW Madison is a fun campus, the social life revolves around the Greek system, which is the center of parties, dances, charitable fundraising, sporting events, and provides housing to thousands of students, which includes food prepared by Chefs. Over the last 150 years, over 400,000 students have participated in the Greek system. Join if you want to have fun, membership is voluntary.

Greek life not necessary to have a social life, however opens up a lot socially if you do it. Somewhat important to be in a mid or higher "ranked" house to be respected by other greek life members.

Greek life at UW is a small super-exclusive clique. UW admitting too many students is a problem in itself. They add on to this by refusing to allow new chapters to colonize at UW. There is an enormous cut off between the relevant organizations and the lower key ones that get 0 attention. Normally at another school, there would simply be an old row and new row in Greek Life with the expansion of new chapters. This isn't the case at UW unfortunately. The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life barely allows in new chapters. The ones that seem to come through are very small organizations with poor nationals. What ends up happening is that Greek life is a super exclusive clique that gets worse every year, with little to no opportunities for expansion. I wouldn't recommend UW Madison if you want to go Greek, look at other BIG10 schools like UMich, Minnesota, Indiana, etc.
