Respond Report
Lambda Theta Phi - ΛΘΦ Fraternity at University of Wisconsin, Madison - UW 2.0 This fraternity is haunted by ghosts and ghouls. Nobody is quite sure how they continue to exist in the steam tunnels. The place is haunted, filled with specters and goblins and phantasm . We tried to go to a party there, but the lights went out, and the screaming started, and people started to disappear. It is truly the strangest fraternity on campus, we couldn't understand how it continues to exist. We read the articles about the murders there in the 1930s, back when it was in insane asylum. I am surprised that the building has not been torn down, given the graffiti, the blood stains, and the piles of ashes on the floor. I won't go back, but I can't forget it. It was a fun party, until it wasn't.

The place is definitely haunted, I know exactly what you mean. Are used to deliver the mail to that building, how does an empty building, that is been abandoned for 50 years, still getting mail? How can it still have electricity, when nobody has lived there in 50 years? After the murders in the 1930s, it was boarded up, and nobody is supposed to be living in that building. Yet I see lights flickering from the inside, and I still deliver the mail to the building. Spooky, nothing but spooky.

Yeah I heard about it, on some graffiti sprayed under the interstate highway, on the bridge overpass. They mention the haunting, the darkness, vampires, and the undead. Not sure what to make of it all, decided not to party at that house ever again. Frightening, a building that has been abandoned for 50 years, the site of so many tragedies, in the 1930s. Resurrected, and possibly filled with the undead, at least that is what I was told. Not sure I will go there ever again, without at least two flashlights, some pepper spray, and perhaps a cell phone that can record ghosts, phantasms, and ghouls.

The building is still there, in the steam tunnels, under Bascom Hill. It is boarded up, but you can enter through the broken windows in the back. I didn't know there are 20 miles of steam tunnels under UW Madison...this old haunted house is part of the OLD MADISON that is sinking into the MARSH, they simply built new Madison on top of it 100 years ago...Very spooky, I went at 3 a.m., and we heard sounds that came from nowhere...only stayed 2 hours...will not go again...In through the sewers...out through the storm gutters...spooky...

Wow it really is there, in the steam tunnels. Could not believe it! Under Bascom Hill, down underground at least three stories, and sure enough there was the fraternity house, boarded up, broken windows, creaky floors, and unbelievably, it still has electricity . It makes no sense, but there it is. I couldn't believe it, the creepiest place . Will not go back again, gave me the creeps, it was spooky, haunted, and ghastly.

We went down to the steam tunnels the other night, three stories below Bascom Hill, we followed the smile, decaying flesh, dried blood, the trail of broken beer bottles. Sure enough, we came across the building, oddly enough, the front door was open . It had electricity, it is covered in cobwebs, spiders, and it smells like a locker room and a graveyard. We spent four hours there, I couldn't go in to the basement, I was simply too scared. Unbelievable experience. I will never forget the smell of rotting corpses, it smells like a morgue.

It took me three hours to find the place, I took it several wrong turns in the steam tunnel , I didn't realize they were so extensive. I was on level two, and it took me a while to find the passageways into level three, at least 70 feet below Bascom Hill, I found it. The smell was unbelievable, there were thousands and thousands of worms feeding on decaying flesh of some kind. I think I ran into my old chemistry professor down there, her eyes were red like a lab rat , it looks like she hasn't seen sunlight in weeks. I guess some things never change. The place is unforgettable, it was just exactly as everyone described, piles of ashes, a terrible smell, and what looks like blood stains on the walls. Frightening.

I ran into the same chemistry professor below ground in the steam tunnels, eyes blazing red like a lab rat, she was sunlight deprived, and raving about organic chemistry class. I threw her a big Mac value meal, and she nibbled on it like a lab rat. Unbelievable, I hadn't seen her in two years, her clothes were unwashed, she mumbled like she was speaking a foreign language, she was dirty. I guess she is enjoying her retirement living in the steam tunnels, below Bascom Hill

8    By: HtSep 16, 2018 7:03:41 AM

I know the chemistry professor...she is unwashed and insane...and she used to teach organic chemistry before she started living in the steam tunnels...

9    By: Scooby DooSep 20, 2018 10:25:33 AM

Just got back from down under, in the steam tunnels, and I saw this fraternity house . The paint is peeling, there are holes in the roof, the walls are dripping with sewage. There is some lady down there, with eyes that are pink, and her hair is long and gray, and she smells like she hasn't showered in a month. She kept mumbling about flunking students out in chemistry class. And she would smile, lick her lips, and continue talking to the shadows on the walls. The place has electricity, I'm not sure why. I could only stay for two hours, I will never go back, the place haunts my mind.

When I got to the second level of the steam tunnels under Bascom Hill, I could hear a woman slightly singing , very poorly, beneath my feet. So I opened the steel door, and descended down the ladder another 20 feet into what I thought was the submerged unoccupied area of the subterranean tunnels. Instead I found this fraternity house, broken windows and doors, bricks stained and bloody, and a woman with pink eyes singing madly in the semi darkness. I walked over to her, she didn't even acknowledge me. I recognized her as the old chemistry professor, that crackpot nearly destroyed the class. She wasn't teaching chemistry when I knew her, she was merely standing at the front of the class and farting repeatedly. Then she would giggle insanely for about 30 minutes, until the class ended. It was bizarre. She is insane, living in that old creaky house, famous for its decadence and decay, and smelling like urine and garbage and corpses. The whole thing gave me the chills.

Had to take a visit, and see the place underground. It is not easy to find. You have to go around all the no trespassing signs. You have to go down three different ladders, and cover great distances, you have to avoid rats, and the stench of sewage is unbelievable. But I found it, it does take about four hours, because you are descending for three levels. Frightening is the only word I can think of, the place is simply frightening. I didn't realize that New Madison had been built on top of old Madison about 100 years ago. I didn't realize that building that old had electricity, and this broken down building still does. I didn't realize that Madison had such an extensive network of steam tunnels underground, they go for miles and they stretch in every direction. The building itself was broken, leaning, smelly, poorly lit, and spooky. I felt like we were in the great pumpkin patch, waiting for the great pumpkin to appear, this is not the place to be on Halloween, I just had the feeling that people had died down there, I didn't want to be one of them. Even leaving was hard, it took me an hour just to get back to the surface. Super scary.

I knew that crazy old organic chemistry professor , I had her for a class. She was insane, and she flunked one third of the class. When we complained to the department head of the chemistry department, we were all ignored. Now she is living underground, karma , pure and simple karma.

When we were in kindergarten, we learn the following rhyme. Lambda, lambda, where did you go? Dead bodies and corpses, how did it go? Lambda, lambda, why did it stop? Was it a killer, was it a cop?

14    By: TrueOct 3, 2018 6:33:08 AM

Had to see it for myself. Took three hours to find it. Looks like a set on The Walking Dead...

15    By: FioraOct 3, 2018 8:16:01 AM

I had no trouble locating it, but have been in the steam tunnels underground before...The walls are covered in leaking sewage...and the floor is covered in ashes...scarier than anything I have ever seen...three levels below ground...70 feet down...

Just finished research at the state of Wisconsin historical society, with the help of an archivist there. The history of this fabled institution indicates that it did have difficulty in 1931, and at that time it was shut down by the University. However, when they built the new city on top of the old Madison, and buried the building, it appears that the fraternity continued to operate serendipitously. This continued for about 30 years, until the last member died off. It is shrouded in mystery, suspicion, and trail of potential corpses. Not the place where you want to spend Halloween! Or do you?

We recently went on a commando mission, and liberated 100 Amazon pythons, the largest snake on the planet, maneaters, from a scientific laboratory on campus that was using them for medical experiments. We decided to release them into the steam tunnels, and did so inside of this fraternity house. Most of them are small, the size of your finger, but within weeks, they will be the size of your arm, and within months, they will be the size of a human body. They can swallow people alive whole, after wrapping themselves around their necks, and suffocating them. So beware, what looks like worms , are really snakes, and by now, they have slithered away into the walls and cracks and crevices of the steam tunnels, where they await you. That red eyed lab rat of an insane chemistry professor, better put on her old running shoes. She is going to need them, I hope she can run fast in the steam tunnels, in the darkness.

Just got back from the steam tunnels. Found the building, three levels under Bascom Hill. Dark, dank, smelly, with piles of ashes on the floor, sewage dripping from the walls, and hundreds of snakes slithering everywhere . Still the building had electricity, not sure how that is possible? Didn't see the crazy old insane chemistry professor, but I did look for her. Stayed about seven hours, after that, the smell got to me, the stench, it is the stench of death. It is Help brought to the earth. Creepy, spooky, an open grave of sorts. I don't think I will ever go back, but I don't think I can ever forget it.

I will pass out candy on Halloween at this location...all of it unwrapped and wet...

20    By: FistOct 11, 2018 8:11:40 AM

Wow, that was pretty cool. Stayed there overnight, 60 feet under Bascom Hill, on the third level of the steam tunnels, had no idea it was there. The snakes are getting bigger, they are everywhere. There are ashes on the floor, blood stains on the walls, and I heard girls screaming on level two. But I could not find where the screens were coming from, it sounded like they were in trouble. What a frightening place, zombies, phantasms, specters, the undead, and the crazy lab rat eyed insane chemistry professor who appears and disappears where there are no doors . The place is death, the Grim Reaper's home, and amazingly it still has electricity after all these years. Bloody frightening.

What an adventure! Four of us just got back from the steam tunnels, and it took us hours to find this place. Sure enough, there are rats everywhere, snakes on the floor , blood stains on the walls, and surprisingly the place has electric lighting! We did run into the crazy old insane chemistry professor, her eyes were lit red like a lab rat. She was mumbling about flunking everybody out of organic chemistry, and every time she said it she smiled and licked her lips. Her gray hair now touches the floor next to her bare feet, which had toenails that curled over because they were so long and every time she walked, they clicked on the floor. She is toothless now, and hunched over, and she carried a knife in her left hand, which she said was used to kill the snakes whenever they attacked her. Snakes are everywhere now, and they are getting larger. They seem to be breeding with each other, the moist wet dank smelly fraternity house, seems to be the perfect group breeding ground for the snakes. Pretty soon there will be thousands. 70 feet beneath Bascom Hill.

22    By: RatsOct 13, 2018 9:51:30 AM

All of a sudden thousands of rats appeared...they were biting the insane chemistry professor! Then the snakes ate the rats...and the professor started cooking a snake for dinner...it is the circle of life!!!

23    By: DracOct 14, 2018 7:31:11 AM

Goblins and Dracula were there...at 2 in the morning...ghouls and bloodshed...70 feet under Bascom Hill. Home to the living dead. Visit at your peril.

I was underground for the last 24 hours, exploring the endless steam tunnels under the campus. I did run into the insane crazy chemistry professor, with red lab rat eyes. She was not wearing any clothing, and she was mumbling. I asked her why she didn't have any clothes on? She said she dispensed with all clothing, as it is not required since underground it is a constant 55° year-round, and she no longer wishes to be restrained. After looking at her weary corpse, I could only conclude that the world would be better served if she put some clothing back on. I remember her from organic chemistry class, she stood in the front of the class, and made a point of not teaching us anything. And she would fart repeatedly, laugh endlessly, and wait for the class to end. Go figure.

In order to get this fraternity, you can enter into 7 or 8 Steam Tunnel or sewer entrances. Then you need to go down to level two, which is 20 feet underground. Find one of three or four access doors, and go down to level three which is 50 feet underground. The basement of the fraternity is 70 feet underground first floor is approximately 60 feet underground and its attic is approximately 50 feet underground. The apex is underneath Bascom Hill, but you have to enter in the back, through broken windows . It is a very scary place to be, you must bring multiple flashlights, and headlamps, just like if you were going spelunking in a cave. Phones do not work underground, and the entire place is covered in sewage. Still, it is a creepy reality, and when they built the old Madison on top of the swamp and marsh, they didn't realize it was sinking into the ground, and so when they built New Madison a hundred years ago on top of old Madison, they didn't destroy it, but rather they used the foundations of the old buildings to support the new levels above them. Make sure to bring plenty of freshwater and food , and fresh batteries for your flashlights. It is extremely frightening . But it is not dangerous.

26    By: RestOct 18, 2018 1:10:12 PM

I could smell her, before I could see her in the darkness. She was nothing but shadows, but I could smell the stench of death, I could smell the farts. It was the old insane organic chemistry professor, standing in the corner of the fraternity, 70 feet beneath Bascom Hill. . She smelled like a fart. Her farts smelled like her. Her eyes were red like a lab rat, and she kept mumbling about flunking all the students in organic chemistry. And then she would giggle and fart more.

27    By: BlueOct 19, 2018 8:46:55 AM

It flooded. Around two in the morning, while sitting around a bonfire in the center of this old fraternity house. We could hear a pipe burst, then creaking, and then sewage water flooded in. Hundreds of snakes were floating on the sewage water, it extinguished our bonfire. Then as quickly as it came, the flood subsided. Now, there is no water. Just the stench of raw sewage, and you can hear the noise the snakes make as they slither across the wet wood floors.

28    By: FidoOct 21, 2018 6:45:55 AM

Just returned from the underworld. Worst smell ever...the old sinking fraternity house is frightening...snakes everywhere...

29    By: BullOct 23, 2018 8:00:15 AM

How strange that was. After three days crashing in the old sinking fraternity house under Bascom Hill, I ran across, in the attic, the insane crazy former organic chemistry professor. She is wearing a moo-moo, house slippers, and she appears to fart every time she takes a step. She mumbles, and does not really speak anymore. Her eyes are red like a lab rat. She was eating a bowl of Jell-O, I don't even know where you would get it down there? She kept mentioning that she flunked out as many people as she could in organic chemistry class, and then she would lick her lips, and smile , a toothless old insane grin. Then she would laugh hysterically, and fart uncontrollably. And she would laugh some more. The entire fraternity house smells like her farts. It is rather unpleasant, and her moo-moo is pink and orange, so you can see her coming out of the shadows. Crazy!

30    By: HkjOct 25, 2018 10:31:23 AM

I was in the center of the attic, of this old decrepit fraternity house, and when I turned around, I saw two ghosts. One ghost was sucking the blood of the other, with fangs sunk deep in the neck. It was actually chugging the blood out of the other ghost, I screamed, ran down the creaky old stairs, and out into the steam tunnels. I forgot to bring my flashlight, and it took me one day to find my way out of the steam tunnels in the pitch darkness, using my hands on the sewage filled walls.

31    By: FeaOct 30, 2018 5:05:50 PM

Halloween approaches, and yesterday I was 70 feet below ground in the steam tunnels, in this fraternity house, which is slowly sinking into the ground. I heard a clack quackery clack,, it was the old insane chemistry professors toenails clicking on the floors as she stumbled around in her moo-moo. Her toothless grin was like a neon sign, visible in the fire that she had built in the fireplace. She had come to do one thing, her nightly dance of death. I am out of here.
