sophomore rush

by:

I'm not currently loving the sororities I was called back to during third sets. I'm thinking about either dropping now or accepting a bid, dropping, and then rushing next year. Still keeping an open mind about the places that asked me back, but I'm just curious about rushing as a sophomore after rushing as a freshman. Does it look terrible to rush again? Will I have a chance?

I don't think sororities will know if you rushed as a freshman and it's not bad to rush as a sophomore. Actually, a lot of girls do and end up in nice sororities. However, I don't think you are allowed to drop one sorority and rush again the next fall. Why don't you like the ones you were asked back to?

I'm a sophomore and I literally just dropped, lol. I don't know. I didn't rush my freshman year, so I'm not sure how it would have gone, but I'm pretty sure I would have gotten better options. It's definitely harder as a sophomore and honestly, you may end up with the same houses, or even less/ worse options. This year had the largest number of PNMs rushing and next year will probably be more and it will be even more competitive. The girl from the house I really wanted told me that they would only take 4-6 sophomores at most, so I knew I didn't have a chance because the sophomores they will take probably already have friends in the house.

Where did you live this year as a sophomore? Were most of your friends in a sorority?

I live in East Quad. I know of girls in sororities and I'm friends with some, but no, none of my close friends are. I wanted to join to make more friends, but I guess it doesn't work that way.

I don't know where you got your information but last year had hundreds of more girls rushing than this year.

But yes, sophomores getting bids to "top houses" is rare.

^ but with that being said, I would say DON'T DROP! Keep going! :) You may not think you like them now, but maybe come Prefs, you'll fall in love, or after initiation you form a strong bond with your sisters... If push comes to shove, drop after you've joined and decided that you absolutely hate it. You will be able to rush next year.

This year's rush was the most competitive I've seen. Many crying girls. My sorority was brutal in axing girls because the pool was huge. If you were axed, don't be too sad, SO many great girls were axed! I'm so glad I'm graduating, this is not what sororities should be about.

I was really excited about rush, but then saw all my friends being cut left and right. Every one of them would make a great sorority girl. I ended up with a house, but am very torn by this system. Rush sucked!

I'm in the exact same boat as you. The houses I got called back to are not houses I want to join; I haven't felt a connection with anyone in any of the houses. I'm probably not going to accept a bid and then just rush again next year and do some serious girl flirting, which seems to be the only way to get into a house I like.

I want to drop out of recruitment as well because I can't see myself at any of my third set houses. They only thing holding me back is that everyone I have met is rushing so who tf will I live with next year??? Cause I am sure as hell not going back to a dorm by myself

I was in the same boat as you last year and I decided not to drop. Sticking it out was one of the best decisions I have made since coming to school, rush is a really stressful process but once you're in a house it is so much easier to connect with the girls! Plus, even if you end up not liking it after joining, no one is going to force you to stay :)

I was one of the crying girls but I'm over it. Alpha phi and alpha chi omega cut so many girls first and second sets like they barely got to talk to us. So many disappointed girls. Too many girls put them first. I want a do over. Not sure if next year will be better as a sophomore.

So sorry! Sokoto many great girls get cut! It's a numbers thing, if you connected with 4 girls, you had 4 votes and were not cut. If you were on the more reserved side because that's how you are, then you maybe didn't get the votes. Umich needs more houses!

I'm currently a senior and I didn't get the house I initially thought I wanted going through recruitment. I got one of my last choices. I stuck it out and ended up holding a position then an exec position for my chapter and I can't imagine being anywhere else (especially when I look at who was my favorite first impressions). Start looking at the girls in your rush line that keep coming back to the houses with you-they'll be your pledge class. My pledge class became my life and we changed our sorority for the better. Liking a house during rush doesn't always mean you'd be a good fit with them. Stay positive and trust the system. Don't miss out on an awesome freshman sorority experience because of a preconceived notion

Let us be honey here! So many girls are upset because they all were going for the same house and wanted to be at a certain "tier". Rush burstes that bubble! You have to go in with am open mind and trust the process. A bad mindset will leave you bidless. Period. We have so many different houses for people to find where they fit. Your Rhos should have quickly ruined your dreams of thinking that the process was all in your hands. You cannot help that you did not get your choice. THEY DID NOT WANT YOU
