sophomore rush

by:

How bad does it look if you go through rush as a freshman and then choose not to pledge a sorority but then rush again sophomore year? Will you get a good bid?

I'm a sophomore rushing. Plenty of houses cut me just because I'm a soph, even though i had a legit reason for not being able to rush last year. If you did rush your freshman year and you rush again sophomore year, it looks even worse.

The thing is, GPhiB is a great national sorority. Here at UMich they are just getting started. You know they took awesome girls last year that were juniors and seniors that had no chance anywhere. If any of the houses open Wnter rush, which I have no idea if they will do, go check them out again. We sorority girls need to support the whole system which includes all the houses! The more houses, the less brutal rush will be! I wish rush were before school started like at some other campuses! I dread rush in my house because it takes so much time.

I'm not saying those aren't great houses! Gamma Phi and Zeta are amazing nationally. I have nothing against those three houses and all of the girls who rushed me were amazing. The thing is, I'm not a sorority girl and the process just made me realize that I didn't really want to be a part of this system that badly. It would be so different if we had more houses, or just a less cut-throat vibe, but we don't and so I felt as if rush was no longer in my control. I'm thankful that those houses invited me back because not everyone had the same outcome, but I wished I had more choices. If I change my mind, maybe I'll rush them again next year or join the new colony! Even though I'm not involved I am excited to see the additional houses and I hope everything gets better with time. :)

Don't worry about how "bad" it will look! Try rushing again and see what happens. If you decide not to, you'll never know.

The only time you would be looked down upon for rushing as a sophomore would be if you were to rush as a freshman, accept a bid to a sorority, and then drop and choose to rush again the next year. In that scenario, there is a very good chance you would get cut after first set by the house you dropped, but no one else would be likely to notice.
