freshman sorority questions

by:

I'm out-of-state and not very familiar with the Michigan Greek system so I was wondering:
How important are recs? I come from a SEC area and I'm not sure how diligent I should be about getting them for all the houses
Do sororities look at your social media a lot? What do I need to keep off/put on my twitter/instagram/facebook? Do they care about number of likes/followers you have? (sounds like a stupid question but people cared about it high school)
Will an engineering student have any problems with rushing? Both as being stereotyped as a nerd and with workload
Thanks!

There are engineers in every single sorority at U of M, there is no "nerd" stereotype associated with engineers that holds you back during rush. Engineering is very rigorous at U of M, and is an especially respected major on campus - it will only give you an advantage during rush to be an engineering major.

You'll be fine, don't worry you can always drop recruitment if it's not for you.

If you have issues with workload and rushing, there's an engineering sorority within Panhel as well.

You don't need recs like you do at SEC schools. It's helpful to get them, but not mandatory at all. As others said, there are engineers in every house.

another option if you don't want to go through full rush is phi rho alpha. they have some engineers as well and don't participate in the full formal rush, but have individual events they invite you to.
