How does pref work?

So on bud day, is the sorority you out as your #1 going to automatically be matched with you, or can you pick between the two you pref, if you happen to get bids from both..?? What happens if you don’t get a bit from either of your top 2

You basically rank your top 2 and typically you get either of them. You will sometimes not get your #1 choice but you’re likely to get one of the two unless you suicide bid (only put one down). If you get bids from both you can’t choose, you get the one you put down as your #1. It is likely to get your second choice but unlikely to not get one at all.
